The PS3/PS Vita stores[polygon.com] will not be shutting down. However, the storefront for the PlayStation Portable (which dates to 2004 and hasn't been supported since 2014) will be closed down, on July 2, 2021, as originally planned.
Wow. Thanks for schooling all of us about digital goods. I think you may be a little confused about the value of physical media though. I sure am glad I bought most of my 3DS games in physical form, since many of them are $40-80 a piece on eBay. Oh, but apparently they are worth nothing beyond their plastic value because Digital Boy here says so.
Until our digital purchases are in the form of some kind of Non-Fungible Token, and we own them independent of the store fronts, accounts, and devices we purchase them on - and can sell them to other people, then I'll continue to buy Physical when available. Currently, digital goods on these stores are literally worthless unless you are planning to sell your entire accounts. Literally the opposite of what you said. Yeah... no thanks.
I already said this to another person, but retro and nostalgic game prices ebb and flow based on the current popularity of the generation coming into disposable income. It is the same for most collectibles. Prices rise, peak, then drop, and only certain titles will be worth anything. Go look at the Atari 2600 or how NES prices are starting to cool. Just because it is worth money NOW, doesn't mean it will long term.
Let me know in 5 years, or 10 years what all those 3DS games are worth. Or how many you are going to play over and over and over again in the next decade to make it worth it.
This is coming from a guy who has a bunch of NES/SNES/N64/Genesis stuff.
in a few years, while you're busy holding that irrelevant disc for whatever old system you bought that you'd need an update to start playing anyway, someone just made 5000x their money on some altcoin crypto while twiddling their thumbs at home.
don't waste your time hoarding and living in the past, find other ways to "create value"
Reading comprehension fail. I never said anything about ALL digital goods not having value, or even that I don't buy things digitally. I just prefer physical when it is available and similar or lesser price, because I like to OWN the things I buy.
I literally said that I will purchase digital games over physical games if they had the security of bitcoin or NFT's and you actually own something instead of just leasing it. You have not made a single, viable argument for buying Playstation games digitally over physically.

So your suggestion is to buy it digitally instead, because prices fluctuate and they may not be as valuable in the future? Umm. Okay. What value would my 3DS collection have in 5, 10 years if I had bought it all digitally? The answer is none. Right now I have something that is at least worth something if I did want to sell them, that I can lend to a friend, and that I can access regardless of what Nintendo does with their servers. There is no downside other than the small amount of space they take up.
People here just like to argue for the sake of arguing. I personally like to buy physical when it is available and similar or less price. I also have lots of things digitally, because they were overpriced for physical editions. Some people like to buy digitally for convenience even when physical is available. That's completely fine, but to argue that a literal valueless leasing of a digital product is a better investment than a physical product is just absurd.
My defense is that IF I want to get rid of it, it actually has value. And if I decide to keep it, then at least I know that I can play and access the game without having to rely on storefronts and servers allowing access to the game I purchased. I know, hard to comprehend.
Edit: ROFL, its a little absurd that people even have to argue the benefits of owning something versus LEASING something.
If I download a game to my console and the digital store shuts down, I still own a digital copy of that game on my console that I can play for as long as I maintain my console. I didn't "lease" the copy of the game, it's mine for as long as I take care of it. Same as your physical copy of the same game. It's yours as long as you don't lose it or break it.
You have a very narrow definition of "ownership" and seem to think that you can only own something if you can resell it. A digital game is something that is owned, but the only way to resell it is to sell your console and account tied to the license.
Do you own a half-eaten banana if nobody wants to buy it from you? Do you own your underwear if nobody wants to buy them from you? Do you own a broken down home in a bad neighborhood if nobody wants to buy it from you? Then why associate "ownership" to ability to "resell"?

Any that are rated good? Especially for retired guy? (Olden folk, Bahahahahahaha!!!)
I recommend the Far Cry series that is included in this sale. All three titles included in that pack are very enjoyable, especially if you don't have Fortnite, CoD, or Battlefield skills anymore (cough, cough, me, cough, cough).
Hey everyone! Apologies for the stupid question, but if I buy these, will I be able to play them on PS5?
I suggest adding a 2TB external drive for $60-$80 and configure the PS5 to install all PS4 games to that external drive.
The current PS5 drive fills up VERY fast, and I am not sure when there will definitively be an SSD upgrade for the PS5 (it will come, but cost and timing are questionable).
One thing worth pointing out in this spat/debate over physical vs digital is that as of right now unless Sony updates their consoles, you will not be able to play physical PS4 games if they take down the PlayStation Network. So if you think you want to play one of your physical PS4 games in 20 years and Sony never removes the kill-switch, you will not be able to play your PS4 disc copy at all. It'll effectively be a coaster.
Granted, this should be an easy "fix" and a no-brainer because for the PS4, it's all in the name of protecting PS4 trophy integrity. But until Sony actually does something about it, just be aware of the possibility your discs could still be coasters.
I have a hard time playing games like demon souls..but would you suggest trying sekiro?
Sekiro is a very difficult game. I played every Souls game and some/all are tough. Sekiro is a great game but you could maybe rent it on Gamefly first. See if you like it before dropping 30 freedom units.
Asking an honest question for open dialogue here, and as a person who desires to keep Game Preservation. What do you all think about the ps3, ps4, & ps5 CMOS issue?
fyi, It affects digital & physical games when the coin battery dies after about 10-15 years, then when installing a new CMOS it needs to reconnect to sony servers just b/c of sony game trophies. if sony eventually removes system servers (like ps3 & psvita is most likely in their last server year currently), then no reconnect can happen, & games cannot load & show a system error.

They should be worthless. Of course there are nostalgiatards out there spending astoundingly moronic amounts of money just to put a piece of cheap plastic on their shelf. It won't last, especially since the PS3/360 gen is where digital really started taking hold and those kids aren't attached to physical discs. You never actually owned the software on the disc, just the piece of plastic it's on.
Tell that to my sega saturn collection worth over $70,000 (and I only have 17 games, some happen to be rare 😜 ).
It's only worth what some idiot collector is willing to pay for it. Also taking a look at the price list for Saturn games I don't see any 17 games that would total $70,000.
