It's been a little bit since I've been in my local Home Depot's tool aisle I guess, but Walmart advertises them as being their brand:
HART is an exclusive lineup of 20V and 40V battery powered tools, hand tools, power tool accessories and more. We provide quality tools with the DIY expertise to help any user no matter your skill level. Get inspired, learn new skills and stay connected to others with the #DoItWithHART community. You'll be amazed at all you can accomplish when you do it with HART. Only at Walmart and Walmart.com.

Hart is definitely not Walmart brand. Hart's parent company (TTI) also owns Milwaukee & Ryobi and many more known brands

Have this exact set at our cabin. Nothing special but not bad. At $30 its a deal imo.

Quality wise its the same as any sub $100 set ive used from other brands (craftsman, kobalt, husky, and the like)

For around the house or something to keep in your car it works great. Actually did brakes and lower control arm on my car using them.

I went ahead and ordered another to put in the trunk of my daughters car.

Bought this last time it was on sale. Perfect set that doesn't skimp on oddball sizes - I've got an 05 Sierra, and GM likes to use 5.5 and 7mm in a lot of areas which this has. Also has a 10mm for both socket sets, and the 90 tooth ratchets are really nice in tight spaces.

Just picked up a set, and I'm impressed with the quality of the tools/bits. The chroming is decent but not perfect, and the ratchets have decent heft.

For comparables... It's below Kobalt/Old School Craftsman/Icon... probably on par with the newer lower quality Craftsman tools, Stanley and those sort of brands. I'm gifting this to a buddy who doesn't have any tools, and I think it'll be fine for the DIY'ers among us.

You know. People talk about quality and what not, but a ratchet that was included when i bought a box like this from Craftsman is defective or something and it does not turn right. I betcha these do
Lifetime guarantee on that craftsman unless you don't actually have craftsman. Take the ratchet to a Lowes and tell them you need a replacement. They may take some time to figure it out, probably call a manager, but it will be replaced.

This is a great deal. I've shopped my ass off for a good bang per buck set. This easily takes the cake. 90 tooth ratchets are hot

Sure, but the Hart line of tools is a Walmart thing... there is 0 reason to believe they're not built to Walmart standards. As you've pointed out TTI makes a big spectrum of quality.
Makes sense. I see what you mean now

Can anyone comment on the quality/applicability of this set?
Has not tried this brand per se but the last time I bought a mechanic tool set for right about the same pricepoint at Walmart was a bust. The socket cracked with minimal application of torque. Tossed the whole set in the trash.

If you want inexpensive tools with decent quality that you can actually work on, go to Harbor Freight instead.

I had no idea!

It seems like they might be digging into Ryobi territory with their power tools though. Why would they compete with themselves?
Hong Kong based TTI owns Hart tools. By quality and price point from highest to lowest, TTI owns Milwaukee, Ridgid, Ryobi and then/now Hart. (Walmart is the owner of Hyper Tough that is manufactured by Test Rite Tools with factories in China and Taiwan.) TTI entered into a contract with Walmart for the Hart brand that displaced Stanley Black and Decker... for now, as a step up from Hyper Tough.

And btw, when Walmart enters into another contract with whomever down the road to replace Hart, there goes the exchange warranty if that was ever available.

Hart hand tool warranty [rackcdn.com] is explicit, in that normal wear and tear is not warranted.

Its 29 bucks.
All 6 point sockets (with two adapters)
And comes with a case.
This is a really good entry level socket set.
You use it. You learn. You grow in knowledge.
A good bang for the buck / lessons learned.

Hart is owned by TTI but sold exclusively for Walmart nowadays.

Many big retailers will request tool manufacturers to white-label an "exclusive" store brand for them, so they don't have to price-match and compete with other retailers. Tool manufacturers often have multiple brands at a spectrum of quality, and even at the same level of quality, they may enter a contract with a retailer to make a white label variant for big retailers.

Quality-wise, I suspect it is equivalent to Ryobi level, which is also produced by TTI, but definitely not Milwaukee grade stuff. (all tools are made with a target price in mind, and the bill of materials for the quality level of components will reflect that).
