I was looking at this A6600 and considering to upgrade from my A6000, but some time in June/July they are speaking of Sony announcing the A6700 or A7000 camera.
The price has been fluctuating from the original $1400 to $1200 price since January 2020, so this is not exactly anything new. But if you need one now, its a good time to snag one.

I have a 6000 as well. The rumors for the 6700 7000 turned out to be the A7c. The APSC cameras traditionally only get upgraded every 3-4 years and they were all done recently. A7 models get an update every other year.
I love this camera it's everything I wanted weather resistance, longer battery life, amazing focus speed and accuracy and in camera stabilization. The only thing I wish they had done was put in faster memory card capabilities.

There was supposed to be an announcement I guess this week regarding a new higher end APS-C camera from Sony. Rumors are that it won't be called the a6700 and it will be aimed at vloggers.
Looks like the SEL1655g lens is also on sale - $100 off... been eying this lens + this body for a bit. Considering finally making the jump from a-mount (a77ii). Would probably pick up the LA-EA5 as well....

Word is that camera is supposed to be targeted towards vloggers in the ZV series of cameras, not an upgrade in the 6000 series line.
Yeah I'm cool with that. Rumored price of $899. I still think the 6600 will be the best aps-c camera through this year but I don't need it I'd rather have the ZV camera that I can use my lenses on.
What's a good affordable lens for the 6600 or alpha series?
Just looking something for family photography and generalized life. Any input is appreciated!

The kit lenses aren't awful. Anything of the Sony lenses under 50mm wouldn't be bad for indoors. 50-100 is common for outdoors if have little bit of room. Just starting out I'd just buy a used kit lens or buy a kit that comes with one.

Some of the third party lenses are so good though like the sigma 16, 30, 56.
Or if you want some flexibility, the sigma or tamron 24-70, 28-75.
Spend a bit more than the kit lens to get way better results
