Got one thanks, but nobody is communicating with me when I use it?

No way in hell these have 16 mile range even in a wide open salt flat in Utah.
These are $10 MSRP too? What's the big deal about this post for a cheap toy?

I have ok one store that shows them for $1. Not bad if your at Walmart but not worth a trip just to check. I joined Brickseek for a month but will probably cancel since WalMart is always off.

79 - 97 mw output according to FCC records. What a joke... I'm sure they meant to say it covers up to 0.0016 of a mile.

Only worth a few bucks to receive weather broadcasts.

Walkie talkies were high tech before cells phones. It's used for hunters obviously and kids

OK, what are these good for? In case of emergency I'm guessing where communication is knocked out?

(Asking from a city guy perspective)
You may wind up in an area where cell towers have been disabled. This will allow you to communicate with others who went with you to that area.

These would only go a block or two at best in a urban / city environment. Consider these more like kids toys.
In NYC with my wife on a c 25 floor at Broadway and 44 Street [Times Square] I was able to reach her from 10th Avenue and 42 Street and also from Herald Square. This is with FRS only.

At that time we only had one cell phone between the two of us. Now we each have our own

Based on the comments, no has a clue about these. FRS/GMRS channels require an FCC license to operate, yes, you can operate without one, but if you violate radio practices with these, the FCC may pay you a visit.

Yes, these radios can have a 16+ mile range, FRS/GMRS channels operate using repeaters, hence the longer range. These radios are basically one or two steps below being a licensed amateur radio operator.

My store had 6+ according to brickseek. Found a few different makes/models in electronics, but none of these.

I came to peace with any Walmart in-store deals long time ago. How much ever enticing it may be, it's not worth the hassle of going to the store when it is less than ideal chance of getting the product, and, even if you find any, the in store price will not reflect online price most of the time and you stand there looking like a fool to haggle the price. Walmart employees are not very helpful either, not all but most. Their inventory management is worse than my kid's clean up ability.
