that statement has nothing to do with quality. snap on is probably a better quality tool than Hercules (a brand of Harbor Freight), but there is no doubt Hercules sales more tools than snap on.

with that said: chasing perfection leads to bankruptcy. a well engineered tool is a tool that balance compromises. perhaps Samsung did just that, make a good enough product for just the right cost. remember the sincerest form of praise from the customer is when they hand you their hard earned cash. empty praise without sales is just that. empty.
You actually bolstered oahumike's argument -- they make appliances that don't last very long, which is what he said and which is what you questioned. They have a huge marketing budget but apparently very poor service, which includes customer service in general as well as a service network. Yale has been criticizing Samsung (and LG) for several years now because of that. Since Yale does upwards of 30,000 service calls a year, I think they qualify as experts.
