The Aluminum edition case appears to be a remarked FLIRC case, which was the original Pi passive cooled case, but IMHO the newer Argon Neo, iUniker, and Geekworm passive cases are superior. They tend to have contact sinks for chips other than the cpu on the Pi that produce heat, and gaps for GPIO and camera ribbons. Search "pi 4 passive aluminum case" on Amazon for examples.

I assume Pi 4 can't really do Plex transcoding?
Honestly if I get around to it I may check out a full setup past libreelec to see if I can have it access ftp directly. I can access the server via ftp and ssh so it's easy to move files over but would be easier if they went straight to the pi from my seedbox.
I think 4GB will be enough. I use mine to stream 1080p mkv files, sometimes to multiple devices simultaneously and it has no problem. Whenever I check the usage I'm never more than 4gb of ram used. I got 8gb for potential future proofing
Again there is no desktop you can buy anywhere close to these. You could maybe get an off lease celery desktop for 200 bucks but this would be better than that in every way.
If you want to create a media streamer, a retro game machine, or a project that needs GPIO, the Pi is the obvious choice.
But where I live, there is a local college that sells their old PCs for $100-200. Those thinking about running torrents, and serving media to themselves, while wanting the PC to do other things really should consider a USED PC. But maybe those aren't available near you.
Again, I have at least 6 Raspberry Pis and I love them. But none of them could replace my home server.

I have mine setup as a very light-use plex server as well. It's transcoded a few movies for me without issue, but a) we're not talking 4K remuxes and b) it mainly direct plays so don't have a ton of transcoding done.

The point of Raspberry was to be the "cheap" cool, pocket computer no one understands how it can be sold for $24.99. But at these prices, it misses the mark.
