These compact batteries are great but be advised that it will not fit on the drill or impact driver if you have the belt clips installed. Easy as removing one screw but just thought I'd point that out.

Unfortunately being on Slickdeals and buying things like an idiot are not mutually exclusive. I'd estimate a good 50-60% of my purchases here have been idiotic. Once I bought a miter saw stand, and I don't even own a miter saw

I'm not seeing much value in this combo.

If it had (2) 4ah batteries, maybe.

The 'newer' battery is not some special deal.

Read about battery cell size here:

https://www.sciencedirect.com/sci...5320309186

21700 cells do have better energy density than 18650 ones..theoretically 6%. In the real world its about 2%. That 2% matters when you are packing thousands of cells into an EV. For about a dozen in a tool battery pack? Meh.

Don't get fooled by a battery pack being shorter. Its also wider and deeper. Maybe you like the dimensional change. It does make a tool stand on end better. That's fine. Personally, I'm indifferent. Give me the most amp-hours for the least money.

Cell QUALITY is what really matters, not cell size.

Manufacturers can introduce other improvements in newer battery packs (better cooling, security features, displays, whatever) and those might be worth paying for..

Just don't confuse a larger cell size with automatically being a better choice.

Atomic not XR. Could be ok if you need tools but I grabbed these on Amazon: https://slickdeals.net/f/15075913-dewalt-20v-max-battery-lithium-ion-4-ah-2-ah-4-pack-dcb3244-179

This is an OK deal, but I'm going to wait until Amazon Prime Day on June 21/22, when some Dewalt tools will be 35% off.

If you use these to power your kids' powerwheels, you'll need to add rubber bands or something that would help with traction.
WTF are you talking about?

My neighbors kids have power wheels that are powered by DEWALT batteries and rubber bands on the wheels to keep the wheels from spinning.

By the way, I stopped by an ACE today. This deal is $10 less in store. So if you are getting this deal, get it in store for $150.

Any reason I'd want the XR over the Atomic? I have XR tools, and XR batteries, but no charger, and I've been wanting a multitool, but didn't want to spend retail.

If you need the battery and charger that saw is actually pretty useful. I use that thing for cutting all kinds of crap, blade selection isn't the greatest but you can find what you need online.

You typed an entire dissertation and managed to completely miss why some people want 21700 based batteries: power. 21700 cells can have higher discharge rates while remaining cooler.

No need to get triggered. Any scientific article on cell size will tell you the same thing.

Here's another one [researchgate.net].that's pretty straightforward.

Discharge rate is all in the battery pack design (including cell quality). An identically sized (amp-hour and voltage) 21700 battery pack gives you 2+% over an 18650 one, all else equal.

Believe what you like.
