Man. I've been wanting a 12"+ SCMS, and I was hoping to see worm drive to become an available feature on them, but never figured I'd buy a SKIL. May have to re-think that.

So what is special about worm drive compared to say Bosch gliding 12"?

The motor will be in the back so you can cut larger material on both sides of the blade. With the motor on the side it blocks one side.

This looks great. I used a cheap harbor freight 10inch slider to rebuild part of my deck. It was easier than using a circular saw but I had to do a cut/flip/cut for the 4x stuff.

This miter saw is so much better with dual bevel and 12". A 10" miter won't go all the way through a 4x4 but a 12" will. The sliding function allows wider cuts. Dual bevel eliminates the need to flip your wood assuming the angle measurements are precise enough or can be zeroed.

If you have a need for a miter saw, get the bigger 12".

Maybe not the Harbor Freight special, but most modern 10" miter saws can cut all the way through a 4x4.

How much difference does that really make considering that other motors are mounted quite a bit above/behind the center blade.

Worm drive saws are often touted as being stronger. This saw will likely be able to cut thicker/heavier hardwoods more easily, and cut dimensional lumber faster than the same saw with a regular motor set up.
