After buying and getting rid of GoPros every few years for the past 10 years, I've come to realize the solution is actually just a good waterproof case.
All modern iPhone cameras are strictly better than any GoPro camera unless you need niche shit like 360 degrees. Unless you're expecting the GoPro to take a beating, there's no reason not to just have a phone inside a waterproof housing such as AquaTech AxisGO which are legit underwater equipment: https://aquatech.net/collections/axisgo
Case + cheapest iPhone like the SE = Better than anything the GoPro could ever capture, plus you can use it as a phone and post or go live underwater

I own several gopros, and the iPhone 12 max pro whatever and the Samsung fold. I prefer the gopro 8 over any phone especially in in highframe mode. The iPhone doesn't do a good of a job in motion. I never liked the iPhone in darker lighting. That's where the Samsung delivers.
