quip electric toothbrush 2 for 25 with Amex offer ymmv - $12.50

American Express currently have an offer for $25 off $50 for getquip.com. There are some toothbrushes you can get for $25 each, so 2x will bring you to $50 then get $25 back from Amex. Note you must add the Amex offer first.

I saw the adult electric toothbrush with plastic handle, as well as the kids electric toothbrush with rubber handle are $25 each. Comes with sls-free toothpaste too. You can also get creative and get other things there instead of toothbrush, as long as your total is $50 or over the Amex offer will apply.

Obviously ymmv if you have this Amex offer or not.

I've been using Quip for probably 2 years. Go to dentist for cleaning twice a year and always hear that everything is great I should keep doing what I'm doing.

I think the main benefit is that you get a new brush head every 3 months, for just $5. Plus, unlike a manual brush, it has a 2 minute timer with 30 seconds intervals.

According to American Dental Association you should change the brush head after 3-4 months, brush for 2 minutes. Either manual or electric toothbrushes can be used effectively.

I'm a dentist, don't buy this it's not worth $free. Get a decent sonicare and floss nightly.

My wife is a dentist, and she got these from the manufacturer for free when they first came out. The manufacturer wanted dentists to push these to patients I guess.

These brushes are terrible. The vibration is useless. The handle shape is awkward—it's straight and smooth and isn't great to hold. The brush head is even something you'd expect from the cheapest freebie toothbrushes a hotel might give you if you forgot one.

I do like how the toothbrush is good for travel though. Comes with its own cover that sticks to a mirror which is convenient.

In my opinion, even at this price, hard pass. Get a few dollar manual toothbrush.

What brush would she recommend to SDers? I use a charcoal wooden brush FWIW

We both use Sonicare. I honestly do not know which variant, but I know her office as a general rule encourages electric toothbrushes.

Quip: good for travel, bad for your teeth.

In all honesty get a cheap sonicare. These are crap.

Quip had a Memorial Day sale. Bought all the things I wanted to try. Stacked with Amex deal. Was so excited trying them. Turns out to be totally crap. Cheaply made and overpriced

Had anyone used their flosser? I'm rather interested in that than the toothbrush....

YES. I actually love the flosser, but the floss it comes with is terrible. And I haven't tried to replace it with my own yet but I read that you can.

It's really easy to use though, it can reach every tooth and it's simple to clip on a new piece of floss. It actually made me want to start flossing more.

Actually I got these quite some time ago, it came with an instruction booklet on which says explicitly you are supposed to brush gently otherwise it damages the gums over time. That's why all the toothbrush you should use are also soft rather than hard, and you are supposed to apply gentle pressure using wrist rather than hand or arm. The point is to get fluoride on the teeth, not so much the brushing part. To that purpose this much smaller vibration is good. Maybe dentists can comment is this is true.

I'm a dentist and this is not true. The point of brushing is to remove harmful plaque and bacteria through mechanical contact of the bristles to your teeth.

This brush is garbage. There is a much better, sonic brush out there for a very reasonable price. It is very similar to sonic care but a fraction of the cost. If anyone is interested, pm me and I can share specifics.

Which ones will she push? I'd like something similar with compact design good portability.

I will ask her if she has any specifics--but I know she has Sonicare for both of us at home.

Quip is one of the most shilled products on the market. It's crap. It has tons of clearly shill "reviews". It is a marketing company with a crap toothbrush that does literally nothing well (perhaps other than look nice and adhere to your mirror). Your manual toothbrush makes so much more sense than this thing, and I'm saying this as someone that got this thing free. (Wife is a dentist.). Caveat emptor I guess.
I couldn't agree more. This toothbrush is complete and utter garbage. Every possible thing about it is junk except the looks - and who really cares about that?

Whatever the merits of the brush itself, the subscription brush head service makes this useless. I've been waiting over 2 weeks for my new brush head and it still hasn't shipped yet. They're blaming covid. Don't buy a brush with a replaceable brush head that your can't reliably replace. Stick with Sonicare (non-Essence) or Oral-B.
