In my case, I deployed a homebridge instance on this thing. Homebridge can be handy for iPhone users, it can port other smart things in, and allow you to control them in Apple HomeKit and also Siri.
We now use Raspberry to control the thermostat, several smart plugs, smart light bulbs and even garage door in my house. I also keep all those temperatures and power consumption with this device.
I'm very Interested in gettin a pi (whatever one don't have to be this one ) for the reason of tryin the pi-hole setup. But I am very curious to real life experiences that some of you may have. How good is the pi hole setup and what does it really do does it block all ads or most? Block apps on cell phone to right does that include line apps during games on mobile. Just things of that nature. All help will be super appreciated and thanks in advance
I have a pi-hole on a rpi3. Works great. I pointed my dns from my firewall at it so all the devices on the lan and wifi share the blocking. Also my fw has a USB port so I used that to power the pi. So basically two short cords from the firewall to the pi and they live together on the shelf.

I finally got around to setting up PiHole on Rpi 3b and I like it. As others have said it can't do much for ads on the same server like youtube or Twitch ads but it does wonders on ads in games. That's actually one of the primary reasons I finally got around to doing it. We let my son have some game time on my Wife's old android phone but didn't like some of the ads he was getting. PiHole has pretty much completely blocked those ads. So games that just automatically insert them between levels pretty much skip over them just like you turned off Wifi. Ones that want you to watch an ad for currency will end up failing and generally not giving you currency.
A pi4 is overkill for PiHole by itself. Someone earlier said a PiZero but I probably wouldn't go there. For something that takes over a critical function on my network I wouldn't want it connected via Wifi and I wouldn't want to do a usb ethernet dongle so personally I'd say go for what ever model pi B you can get cheapest as they all have built in ethernet.

Sideload Smart YouTube to get rid of the ads. There are tutorials on YouTube of all places.
The raspberry pi is a little circuit board that can do various things... Some people use some of the newer ones with more RAM to make emulation rigs to play old games. Some people use them to make a "pi-hole" to block ads etc on the internet... Although it has been said that a raspberry pi zero would suffice for that, and this would be overkill.
Just check out YouTube and see what people have done with it. It's not for everyone though.
People (like myself), also use them for octoprint to remote control and monitor their 3d printers. Being able to kick off a 3d print from work using octoeverywhere and have it done by the time I get home is really nice.

I just installed pihole on a Pi0 yesterday. Some of the redirects on SlickDeals are broken, but otherwise it seems to be working fine. Not a magic bullet.
I need to get DHCP handled by the pihole to aid in troubleshooting, but didn't want to mess with that while the kids are in online classes..

How do these work as emulation boxes and/or 4k streaming boxes.
The videogame emulation is up to Dreamcast and Playstation 1 as far as I remember. I got a pi3b and all I play is old school arcades from a cabinet made by Gameroom Solutions.

This one (Best Buy) comes with a basic power supply with no on off button.
