Honestly, with Irwin Vice-Grip quality control falling so far lately, I think you're better off going to a store like Home Depot or Harbor Freight where you can see the pliers before purchasing to make sure the tips line up and that they function smoothly without too much play. There's no point in paying a premium for Irwin pliers anymore...

Here's a Stanley pair for $3.50: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Stanl.../311369492

For having to go someplace when you can just get it shipped to your house? I really don't enjoy going to Home Depot all that much.

Because some of us are older and trekking out to stores is kinda painful. If I needed this RIGHT NOW I would make the trip. But most of my tools are Snap On and this is a good deal for a good tool I;m all set.

It may not be so much lack of quality control as it is counterfeit quality. If you were to compare Irwin products from Amazon with the exact same products from Lowe's, you may see a noticeable quality difference. Thoughts?

Meh, price history says this is usually priced at $8.90. So sure it's a little bit of a discount but not slick if you don't truly need them.
No deal is slick if you won't use it.

It's also possible that they aren't even counterfeit on Amazon, even if they're lower quality. Many companies just send what's essentially their factory seconds to Amazon because people won't buy them if they see them first in the store, but they might not be bad enough to bother returning to Amazon.

If you're unsure about the size, just beware that 6" pliers are pretty small. As some of the reviews noted, your pinkie is not going to be touching that handle.

Just a reminder there is a 'Spend $10 at Small Business and get $10 to spend for Prime Day' promo. https://slickdeals.net/f/15066250-amazon-prime-members-purchase-40-amazon-gift-card-receive-10-credit?v=1

So you could either buy some pliers from a Small Business now and have $10 AMZ credit for Prime Day. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...QSNNF&th=1 (will need a filler to hit $10)
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...WS89&psc=1
https://www.amazon.com/Edward-Too...7879387011

Or just spend $10 at a Small Business now, then use the $10 Amazon credit to buy some pliers on Prime Day.

I stay out of Home Depot and Lowes these days because I'm afraid that the shock of seeing a $82 sheet of 3/4 inch plywood might make me have a stroke.

I had this exact stroke yesterday. I only needed about 1.5'x2' ft I though I'd buy a sheet and cut it out like the old days. Small sheet was $30..... Went home, cut the cedar fence boards I had left and made due, filled the gaps, done. These cedar planks used to be $1-2 a piece, they're now $3.90 a piece...

True, but as a new homeowner i find myself jumping on some of these better tool deals even though I may not have an immediate need for them. I figure it is a good idea to build up my collection with well priced well regarded tools when I can especially if they're slick.

These are a few cents cheaper at my local Lowes.

https://www.lowes.com/pd/IRWIN-Vi...001407005?

You WILL want to sort through the display and find a good pair, as many of these don't completely close at the tip.

These have been made in China for over a decade, so don't expect some heirloom tool like the Irwin of ole

So I was at Lowes and it was $5 so I grabbed one. Then I went to the HD to get the $3.50 ones. None left. It's the only one in the bin to be out of stock too.

There you go with the Stanley and also delivered for free.... Besides the handle coverings, they look the same with the same initial gap before the tips that will flex a little as the cutter wears.

=========
Just bought several Irwin Vice Grips on a deal and although they are a touch better than say, Harbor Freight, the made in China quality has diminished considerably in comparison to our older sets made in the USA.

Or, if your cousin, brother etc., is higher up the ladder at the Chinese factory, you would have access to a lot of rejected tools. As well, the typical rejection clause for in country inspected exports on contract is 10%.... that are sold someplace.

Recall.. when I lived in FL. I avoided the place.
'Cuz HD stood for Homeless Depot.
I agree.... and it is getting worse... Not someplace you want to send your wife or daughter alone. Besides Florida, in the larger cities throughout the SW and southern California, HD is where the illegals hang out for day jobs. I don't see it as much at Lowes, so presume they do not tolerate it. No jobs that day, they become panhandlers that can become a little aggressive, but typically not as aggressive as another entitled culture that not wanting a job, often hang around the Walmart type parking lots.

Dang I missed the free ship part, but I go to HD often enough I needed other things. I got lucky and found one in the other boxes.
