Here are my 2 cents for this projector.,

For a dedicated, light-controlled room, you don't want this projector. The TK80OM and TK850M are intended for multi-use rooms with significant ambient light. They had a white segment to the color wheel (RGBW) to increase white lumens, which sacrifices color lumens, color accuracy, and contrast. It's a good projector for a living room, but not for a dedicated theater.

The HT3550 is a much better choice for a dedicated theater. I would definitely think it's worth the extra, and you can get a refurb with a full warranty from benqdirect for $1199. It adds more lens shift and ZOom, excellent factory-calibrated color accuracy, a dynamic iris for scene-by-scene dynamic brightness and contrast, and 18GBPS HDMI for 4K 60fps HDR. It is a very large improvement for the price difference.

Has someone found a good comparison video of the 850 vs 800m?

based on specs, the 850 is an upgrade

Projector noob here. How would this perform outside? Obviously I wouldn't leave it outside at all times but when it's not pitch black outside will it still be bright enough for viewing?

I have HT1075 that I have been reluctant to spend money on upgrading because how happy that I have been with. 2 questions for everyone - 1. How big of a jump in performance is this compared to what I have? 2. How does the TK800 compare to the best projector under $2k?

I'm seeing $1274, where is the $1199 price?

I'll tell you, i'm in the market for a projector and the refurbs and sales make it so hard to select which to go with. I want to spend around a grand.
