How to get ring subscriber discount?
You need to own a ring product and subscribe to their service = Subscriber. It's not a newsletter that you just sign up with.

Any idea if this is 3rd generation?
looks like 3rd generation to me. If you look at the camera it has the speakers on the bottom of unit. The other generations didnt have the speakers there.

Edit: just found out that the discount doesn't show for this refurbished product on Amazon. But definitely worked when I bought the solar charger a few days ago.

If you are a Ring protect plus subscriber and you linked your Amazon account with Ring on the Ring website, you can get the subscriber 10% discount when buying from Amazon . It will show the discount on the Amazon checkout. That way you can use your Amazon VISA card and get the 5% cash back.

I am genuinely interested in learning how ring door bell can be used as camera at a place where there is no existing 12v/16v doorbell connection? like backyard.

Do you have the Pro doorbell? That's the only one worth using.
Really wish they would do a battery option for that one. I got the normal battery one and it's not that good.

The hard wiring is the reason why it is better though

Do I need to add a subscription to this camera if I already have a subscription for a Ring doorbell?

Yes. It's $3 each if you need recorded videos or all for $10 per month. I recently switched to ring alarm, including home monitoring and subscription, it's $10pm

They would never do that because they know there would be no network if everyone needed to opt in.
Are people concerned about privacy? Bandwidth? Just the general principle of it? The bandwidth and overall usage is limited to a tiny fraction of what people use every day and I would expect that anyone who really cared about bandwidth would be using a none cloud solution like Ring. Personally if 500mb/month (that's the current data cap) of my data plan can help someone find a lost pet or get a security system notification then why not? My phone already does the same thing with the airtag and tile networks and that is actually sharing my bandwidth and current location.

It's the sensor again. An IR sensor doesn't need a lot of power or intelligence but the Pro version uses video analysis which needs both.

It's $100/yr if you go with the annual premium plan.

Anyone ever buy these refurbs from ring? I was going to buy from amazon, but since I need 3-4, I'm debating on getting from ring themselves to save myself a few extra bucks. I'm just wondering if returning in case anything goes wrong is as easy as it is with Amazon.

It's $48.99 at ring.com with student discount or $54 with ring subscriber discount
They make out the refurbished cameras on ring.com to be indoor only, while the ones on Amazon appear to be indoor or outdoor. Are they not the same camera?
