wondering if buying points is an eligible purchase? so, buy $105 of points (3500 points) and then get 5000 bonus points, so a total of 8500 points for $100?

That's a horrible value to purchase points at that rate. Best off buying a GC

Also, I think purchasing points may go through points.com, but I'm not sure, so it may not count

Regardless, not a good value imo

Just FYI, November to Jan flights open for sale on 6/10. So holiday travel prices might be high initially in June. Consider buying the gift card now and watch fares
Pretty much always watch your fare price if you book far in advance. If it goes down you can "change your flight" and just reselect the same flight details and they'll refund the difference.

FYI / PSA:

Southwest Rapid Rewards points are currently valued at 1.5 cents per "The Points Guy" website, or 1.6 cents each per Nerd Wallet.

Use Southwest's 'low fare calendar' and switch between pricing in points and pricing in dollars to find the best value. Sometimes you can get an equivalent value of 1.7 cents or more.

" All Southwest Rapid Rewards Credit Cards are eligible".

I didn't get the email.
The terms say : " This bonus offer is non-transferable and applies only to the account of the primary Cardmember referenced in this offer. "

Thats a targeted offer.

Thats a targeted offer.

It's a matter of semantics.

Being that the offer is available to all Southwest cardholders, it is not a targeted offer.
However, it is restricted in the way the bonus points will be given to the primary account holder, not a secondary cardholder's RR account - nor can the bonus points be assigned to a different RR account.

They recently devalued so points are closer to a 1.3 cent per point value.

Still this is solid, you'll earn points when redeeming a $100 gc and I would have enough for a cheap flight from SEA to Vegas.

Not saying that you are incorrect, as they may have recently devalued their points - however I did just book a flight for 7,303 points that has a cash price of $118. That works out to 16.16 cents per point. So it's definitely a YMMV situation. It pays to shop... and look at Slickdeals a lot. Applause

The devaluation was 6%, and the previous value was about 1.6 cents, so more like 1.5 cents, or $75.

But as noted, the real value comes in not paying some taxes. So a $49 flight costs close to 3000 points, or over 1.6 cents per point.

More expensive flights are proportionately more points.

Per card. Each card is only linked to one account.

I'm not sure about other travel points programs, but I love how flexible SW RR are. Price goes down. rebook, and get points back. Cancel last minute. Get points back.
