I have ATT fiber (1gb asymetric). I can tell you that the ATT installers are using plain ol cat 5e for their modem runs. I watched the guy pull it. From the modem, I do run cat 6 to my firewall and I do get my full bandwidth. But their fiber to modem run was about 60ft of 5e here and I get near gig speed with no issue. So 5e should work just fine for 1Gbps.
My point though was that no one is going to get 40Gbps of speed on a copper ethernet cable. I mean, we are just now starting to get 2.5Gbps nics out there. There is no 40Gpbs copper ethernet adapters out there so it seems silly to market a speed that no one can get.
I just setup 2 dual 10gbe nics for running between each other...(only using one of the pair). Running proxmox and truenas/some vm's on it (also have a 2.5gbe switch qnap here...but had issues [email protected] with truenas...apparently linux super users really hate/despise realtek nics). CPU from my main machine, storage on the nas... For small file transfers i won't reach gigabit speeds, for vmware i see pulls up to 1.5gbe, for large file transfers up to 8gbe on cat 6a (i think its 6a...6a or 6e...). I haven't tried swapping cables around to see if there are issues on older standards at the 10ft length between my pc and my nas. For $5 it might be worth picking up the 10ft one, but i wouldn't expect a major upgrade unless i'm just missing dropped packets or something...
You are completely wrong. There are 40Gbps Ethernet adapters. We have them in our data center that I work at.
I think the distinction here is 40GBase-T, so 40Gbps using twisted-pair copper. You can get 400Gbps optics or copper DACs and run Ethernet over them, but I'm not aware of any manufacturer selling 40GBase-T NICs or pluggables. 25GBase-T will have products available "soon" - there's just such limited demand because anyone needing this speed will generally use fiber.
Also, this cable is probably perfectly fine for home use, probably even up to 10Gbps, but I highly doubt it would actually certify as Cat8. Who will know, considering it's 6' long - at this length you can get 10Gbps out of Cat5e 🤷
Well, I think the discussion is assuming that the cables actually MEET the CAT5E or CAT6 standards. Your cable clearly did not. Certainly if you are unlucky enough to have a garbage cable it won't matter what CAT rating it says on the package!

Yeah, my house is wired in Cat5e and I get the full gigabit through my fiber gateway.
It all depends on the length of the run. Cat5e will work unless you have a huge house.

Oh man, you crack me up. Don't go saying you live in a 3rd world country to anyone who lives in a 3rd world country. You'll get slapped silly for your blatant disregard for you American privilege.
You know why our internet is slow? It's because infrastructure for such a sparsely populated country is high. That's right USA is one of the least densely populated countries per square mile. We are so lucky that we don't live on top of each other in shoe boxes, even if it does keep us from having high speed fiber at everyone's house!
but yeah, I wish I could get fiber LOL.
Also because government granted monopolies, Title II, access underground, etc.
Source: Knew someone on an overclocking forum who ran an independent ISP and was shut out from growing due to policy only the biggest and fattest win in the ISP business.

CAT6 = 1 Gbps @ 250 MHz = OK that's good
CAT7 = 10 Gbps @ 600 MHz = I SAID that's good!
CAT8 = 40 Gbps @ 2000 MHz = It's enough slices!
