Lotsa review with broken hinges. Looks like a manufacturing or design deficientcy.
Alotta talk about EOL but the reviews are riddled with hinge problems, at least via the above link

Why would it be sold by Samsung if it's that horrible?

"The point" of a Chromebook is to not rely on your hard drive..
OK. Then why does samsung provide 64G/128G/256G version?

That's for storage - not necessarily required to run to OS/apps etc. There is a micro SD slot.. just throw in what you want depending on your files

Is this a good upgrade over Acer R11?

Because companies make profit off our ignorances of what their technology actually offers; So local storage is convenient but lightly unnecessary (to an extent)

...because Chromebooks are made to operate mostly "within browser" and since the world is WiRelEsS now, a strong business move would be to push T H E C L O U D and have customers' files "safe in the cloud" and produce an entire laptop computer that does this. It's been like at least 7 years now since the Chromebook was released.

The Cloud is (are?) server farms in buildings where they have your data saved....Whiiich is only accessible by you (or so we're told); This amounts to you using a computer without over-storing software alongside your millions of videos etc.

This was $152 a few days ago. Some more info in that thread.
$152 is no longer available. It was posted by me. This one has aluminum frame while the other is plastic. hence the different $30 there.

broken hinges was more likely on version 1. This is V2 which came out a year after.

Thanks. Ordered the $180 version from the last post. Let's hope the hinge issue was isolated to V.1.

Cloud storage? For the long term, it is not cheap at all. And you need a hot spot if you are outside that means you also need to pay more for the data usage.

Has anyone bought V 2? There's 20+ reviews that had hinge pop and break the screen. Are those reviews only on the V1? Anyone have V2 with same problem or was it fixed by Samsung? Thanks!

There are many reviews not only on Samsung but also on Amazon and reddit that said the hinge broke on V2.

In my opinion the Galaxy Chromebook 2 for $350 (EPP/EDP price) is a better product, but cost a lot more. I repost the reason I ruled out the Chromebook Plus as below:

1. Very weak 2017 CPU (equivalent to N3160 on Acer Chromebook 14 CB3-431)
2. Software support ends in June 2024
3. Well known hinge problem with some reporting cannot power on after one year
4. No HDMI port (but can use USB-C to HDMI if you really want it)

The specs look quite good though at this price:
1. FHD display
2. 12.2 inch
3. Lightweight, battery life

If you are willing to pay $350 for a Chromebook the Galaxy Chromebook 2 has better specs and will be supported until 2028. Strangely, the S pen works with the Chromebook Plus but Galaxy Chromebook 2 only works with USI pens which Samsung doesn't include or even make/sell.
FYI the $350 Galaxy Chromebook 2 is for I3, 8GB RAM, 128GB storage.
The low-end Galaxy Chromebook 2 with Celeron, 4GB, 64GB is only 315. But in my opinion for $35 it is very much worth the upgrade.
