I find them almost identical in price, but Southwest:

-Doesn't make me hate flying
-Is generally on time
-Plays few games with fares
-Lets me check 2 bags so I'm not carrying on a ton
-Is quick to offer refunds and credits for mistakes or inconvenience

YMMV...
Friday, June 11. For one day and one day only, Southwest Airlines is offering its cobranded cardmembers a generous opportunity to easily earn 5,000 Rapid Rewards points. As part of its 50th-anniversary celebration, Southwest is allowing all Rapid Rewards credit cardholders to earn 50 points per dollar spent on Southwest purchases. However, this promotion will only last for one day from Friday, June 11 at 12:00am ET to 11:59pm ET

Maybe it's because of where I live, but I've never seen a Southwest flight that is a better deal than what you can find with American/United/Delta.

Road trip when you arrive. Note that Seattle or Portland will very likely be overcast and chilly with rain possible. Head down the coast to Oregon/N Cal and you will be happy. Personally Seattle is rather dull and boring with way too many homeless encampments everywhere, especially downtown and along the wharf. Car break in's are high. If possible, a passenger ferry ride to Victoria is always fun. Get a room at the Empress Hotel which can be expensive, but worth it.

Agreed man. Southwest are ridiculously expensive because of their two free bags policy and their round trip costs almost twice as the price of delta and 3 times the cost of Spirit. Of course with Spirit there are flight cancelation headaches that you have to deal with. But I prefer Delta more than any other flights.

Odd. They're not perfect, but usually better than most airlines. I've flown with Southwest many times.

Don't forget no-change-fees, and it's not just that, they just bank a full refund of the flight, no rules for which flight to can change to, you simply pick another flight, or don't, the money will stay in your account.

Seattle person here o/

Road trip in the pnw is definitely worthwhile. So much to see. Olympic peninsula and hurricane ridge make a great day trip.

The opinion about settle being boring? Uhhhhh, okay.

I suggest you visit this once nice city and report back. 2020 riots/protests/destruction drove away many businesses. It's why many continue to leave regardless of their politics.

There are people on the web that know much more about this than i do. My wife and I used to sign up for 2 credit cards every other year, which would get us within 10,000 points of a companion pass. I think Chase has made that a little more difficult recently but you can still get a lot of points with a card.

The last couple of years we have run all of our expenses through the card and took advantage of some southwest shopping deals. If you travel at all, try booking hotels through the southwest site. In many cities you can get 10K-20K points for specific hotels...often at the same price that you can get the hotel on booking.com. There are also different deals on rapids rewards shopping (like cheap magazine subscriptions) that will give you ~3k-10K points. Most years we have been within ~5k points needed for a companion pass by the end of the year, so we make sure to get the pass which is then good for the entire following year.

Thank you!

You fly out of MSP too?
The only deals I ever see are to Denver.

And you have to wait until the right Southwest sales to get the right deal

Can you help me understand what/when the right sale is? I fly out of Minneapolis if it matters.

Look at the receipt for the TSA and airport landing charges that do not go to the air carrier....

Unless they got a variance, at $39 net, the airline is losing money.

Maybe so, but that is the reality of downtown Seattle that seems to collect every freak from all demographics. Depending on one's experience, I would agree that it will probably not be boring... especially after the sun goes down. Then again, neither is the south side of Chicago, East St Louis, Baltimore, etc.

Once south of Eugene and in the Banana Belt of Oregon, life is much better. Those that live on the California/Oregon line often shop in Oregon for the no sales tax..... the parking lots are full of California plates.
