Wasn't there a netflix documentary about over 50% of honey is fake honey from China being blended into our food supply, and that many of the food manufacturers don't know its fake?

Recently discovered that manufactures only need to include 51% honey to call it honey. They can and often do add fillers like corn syrup.

Not to mention it's often sourced from China, heavily processed/pasteurized which removes beneficial enzymes.

Best to get honey from a local source/farmer if you want the health benefits from honey.

5 Lbs is about 480 teaspoons.

Two cups of tea a day. would be 3/4 of a year.

Add two teaspoons per cup and you're looking at 1/3 of a year.

Two or three person household.

Honey in cooking.

I mean, You could just slather it on yourself too.

Quote from Mr. Harley :
I think you may be misunderstanding the current labeling rules. But that still doesn't mean you will get the real thing, honey is one of the top three most adulterated food product on the market. Chinese honey is a total crap shoot, and it routinely mislabeled as Canadian or US honey. Relabeling Chinese adulterated honey as real honey from North American is EXTREMELY lucrative. It's been documented for well over a decade, and given how our trade with China works is more whack-a-mole than effective inspection and sanctions.

"Under the current guidelines, FDA defines honey as, "a thick, sweet, syrupy substance that bees make as food from the nectar of flowers and store in honeycombs." Manufactures must now label products as honey "blends" if they include anything other than pure honey produced by bees.

Discouraging Adulteration

Descriptions like "blend of honey and sugar" or "blend of honey and corn syrup" are offered as appropriate examples. Only single-ingredient products can be labeled as "honey" without requiring further clarification."

I can't agree that anymore. I mean I don't get the part where people buy cheap stuff and complain. The same thing happens with olive oil, the real olive oil is so much expensive that most of people won't buy, and Most of "fake" ones are manufactured in Italy.

The documentary was not specific to being anti-china, rather fake goods being sold.

In the documentary on honey, the majority of fake honey came from China.
Sign me up, I hate ccp so much that I would really wish and hope they go down some day, Sooner than later, maybe tomorrow? Most of people don't care about China's low standard policies. And how this world works. The real honey, or olive oil is expensive! Wanna get real ones? Pay the real price. If they real do care about fake or real, there are information online on how to identify the real or fake. But for low price honey or olive oil, most of them are fake. Period

I will stick with buying honey from Costco. I may be naïve but trust Costco controls their sources better than Amazon.

Not disputing what you've said, but what are you doing with 5lbs. honey before it starts to crystallize? Kinda suspect.

Honey tastes great with many different foods so there is no shortage of applications. But using it just for sauces alone for cooking purposes uses a lot of it quite quickly.

oh without question... you absolutely can't trust amazon reviews these days. the chinese companies game the reviews so hard and amazon does nothing as more positive reviews = more sales.

they would still have to put it on the label.. unless they outright lie.. which is easy to get caught.. the problem with honey is it is easy to mix china honey in with American honey.. the company might not do it.. its the person supplying the honey can.. but is still 100% real honey.. just lying about the source.. its impossible to tell because its the same thing.. and if chemist cant tell them a part are they really different?

Watch the documentary; they answer this question.

They are getting sophisticated where Chinese fake honey can mimic the chemical compound tested for real honey.

Its a constant cat and mouse game, and the profit margins are so huge selling mislabeled sources/fake honey.

I'm a sideline beekeeper. Last year I got about 45 gallons, hope to see 60 this year. Best complement I ever got from a customer was this past year:

"I opened your honey and it smelled like perfume and tasted like flowers. It was delicious! Is it supposed to be like that?"

I told him, "That may be the first time you've ever had real honey." Smilie
