Are Graphic Novels a self-contained story using comic art? I am under the impression they're an anthology of volumes from the monthies or something.

Graphic novels can be both! It's a broad term. The distinction is more about whether the comic content is released as a periodical (i.e. a comic book) vs. released as a book /one-time / non-periodical release (i.e.graphic novel)

This is a solid deal. Comixology frequently has Marvel comics but n sale for about this price (at the moment they've got a number of Loki, Luke Cage, and Infinity-related titles on sale - many for $2.99), but DC comics are NEVER this cheap. Hopefully we start to see more of these DC spotlight sales.

In this case, you are correct. It's an ambiguous term since there are original novels out there written and published in a comic format in addition to collections of monthly issues and self-contained standalone mini-series. If you look at the product info, it should tell you whether it is a singular text or a collection of individual issues.

Nice deal, but I had a bunch in my cart and before checking out I looked on Hoopla and almost everything I was about to buy was available to borrow there instantly. If your library offers Hoopla you might want to check there first if you just want to read the books and don't care about owning them.

Dennis "Denny" O'Neil's run on Green Lantern/Green Arrow (collected as Hard Travelin' Heroes) is the first to really define Green Arrow beyond "Batman but with arrows" and turned him into an outspoken left-leaning firebrand (contrasting with Green Lantern's more conservative "space cop"). The comics can come off more than a bit dated and preachy to modern readers but the stories are an important part of comics history and Green Arrow especially. Plus if you've ever wanted to see superheroes fight Charles Manson, well you're in luck ya weirdo.

Mike Grell's run (beginning with The Longbow Hunters standalone graphic novel and then an ongoing series of collected editions starting with Hunter's Moon) is considered possibly THE definitive run on the character as it dropped much of the fantastic gadgets and trick arrows for a more gritty and grounded style. It takes some clear inspiration from Frank Miller's work but it still carves out its own space. Early seasons of Arrow clearly draw some inspiration from this run.

Picked up a few things. Google Play also has quite a few of the same titles for those that may have some credit there.

Thanks OP for the deal and others for the recommendations!

Year 1 is $2, "deluxe edition" is more expensive ($3).

The Kevin Smith ones, usually referred to as the Quiver series, are pretty good.
