Is this deal any good? How do you determine which DeWalt drill is the best? They seem to have so many models. The one in this kit is DCD778. I never heard of that one until now.

It's not a good deal. The drill and impact driver aren't "great", and the batteries and charger are 💩.

Some (Milwaukee sponsored) people made a video and claim that the 787 is better than the 887. But as a heavy of both over the years, the 887 is far better in all aspects... most importantly, durability.

The drill is , mehhh. It's "brushless, but the chuck is rough. Basically this is the craftsman drill.

As far as choosing Dewalts, they have some good, some bad, and some GREAT tools.

From my experience, the XR models are well worth the difference in price over the regular (brushed/brushless) versions. Avoid the Atomic line like it's the bubonic plague.

Batteries, I don't use much less than the 5ah. I have a bunch of 2ag, 3ah, and a 4ah, and I just use those in things like flashlights, fans, radios.

So it really depends on what you want out of your tool. I like Dewalt, but I use plenty of other brands as well. I use Dewalt batteries in all of the other brands of tools though (if I am able to.) You can buy adapters for them to where you can use a dewalt battery with say a Makita, or Milwaukee . The reason I use dewalt batteries is they tend to go one sale (2 of the 5ah and a decent charger can occasionally be found for $110+/-. And the batteries are pretty good. Also Dewalt has specials where they often throw in batteries. Like I bought another fan recently that was, if I recall, $99 with a 5ah battery. I also got their xr drill driver, and 3/8 impact wrench with a 5ah and 💩slow charger💩 for $139.

So, personally, I'd hold off on this deal. There could be better deals out there right now. And there definitely will be better deals in the near future.

Any other Questions, just ask.

Deal isn't expired for me... but I wouldn't call this a good deal.

Wow thank you for the awesome response. I just barely got started on DeWalt as my more powerful tools (been using 12v and below until now). I have the dewalt sander and recip saw. Now I'm looking for the best drill to get. I don't need another middle of the road drill. Been looking at the DCD999, is that their best? Getting a little overwhelmed with all the different models they have.

Yeah... it can be overwhelming. And if get the wrong one you'll hate it. Lol.

Personally I don't care for the "flexvolt advantage" . I went All In when they came out, but ended up disappointed in the lack of power they were "supposed" to get from flexvolt batteries. Some people notice it, I didn't.

But, getting a hammer drill as opposed to a drill/driver like the dcd791, is a good call. I have regular drills, but I never use them it seems.

The dcd996 however... that has been a serious workhorse for me over the past few years. It's just a 20v XR, but I beat the snot out of it, and it keeps going. I'm on my 2nd chuck though. The factory Jacob chuck isn't bad, but I'd get some slippage when using it as a hammer drill, so I upgraded it to a nicer chuck.

Just make sure to watch out for gimmicky things Dewalt has a tendency to produce lately. I love the 12v line, so I got suckered into the atomics right away lol. Ouch. 12v are way better than the Atomic line. Lol.

Also... look into 2 other Dewalts. (Both $99 right now at many places.) The XR impact driver, and (Dewalts best tool imo) the XR Oscillating tool. Then once you have a hammer drill, a jigsaw, and a 7¼ circ saw, you will have every tool for about any situation!!!
