Just stayed at this hotel in May. It's older and undergoing renovation. Didn't have to pay to park the rental car because of it but be aware. Really enjoyed our stay but it is a bit dated.
Prices just for the room seem to start at about $1800 for 5 nights. Pretty poor.

Edit: "Rental car or transfers (based on availability)".

Hotel can be booked at $300 night directly depending on dates. So You are still paying for the car rental in the package price. At best, you are getting the food credit for free.
Cost of rental car is included. It won't be "pricey"

We just did a similar deal that popped up on SD back in December for the Maui Ritz Carlton. It was incredible. Having the fees included in the package, a rental car (easy to confirm reservation a month or two out) was easy, the daily resort credit was fantastic, everything was taken care of. Would highly recommend.

Christ you people are insufferable. He's right, the northwest side of Maui is a nightmare drive even with a small amount of traffic.

Stayed at that hotel ~ 4-5 years ago, all good except the beach, full of sharp corals, got cut really bad on a toe . If you stay there you will need that car to go to a better beach... and pay parking probably.

While you yourself seem to be an insufferable troll inn these forums

I do agree, because the rainforest is a wonderful place on the north area

At the top can see out to the ocean. Many unique trees, hidden waterfalls just beautiful

You're really missing out if you go to Maui and don't go to this area

edit: you're close to the Road to Hana from there as well

Not advocating for going to Hawaii or not, but be aware that things are not yet normalized to pre-pandemic levels. Some things to keep in mind:

Never been to Maui. Is rental car critical or can you Uber/Lyft?

To see Maui, in my opinion, you really need to drive the road to Hana yourself, and making it to the top of the volcano, best on the morning after you arrive, for sunrise is great. Neither can you really do with Uber/Lyft.

You could probably go between restaurants, etc., near your resort, but it is a big island, and you would really be confined to the area near the hotel.

Good luck getting a car rental this year. Even if you book a rental, they may not have it available when you arrive, or any car as a replacement for that matter.

Wonder if they drop the whole covid test requirements by August yet. I checked as of right now, they only change the rule that if you got the vaccine in Hawaii you can waive the test but we got vaccine in our state of Washington...Only my 9year old doesnt have it.
I wouldn't be surprised if HI didn't change their covid test requirement for unvaccinated people. I'm in HI right now and there are tons of international tourists here. Willing to bet many of them come from countries that do not have the kind of access to covid vaccines that we enjoy in the US. Not to mention, the US still doesn't have a vaccine for children under 12. That's a very large group of people. HI simply cannot handle an outbreak.

Lol, Hawaii is still requiring a PCR test even for vaccinated people for out of state arrivals (interisland is dropped for vaccinated) until 60% vaccination. Unvaccinated will be tested for a long time. It's a nice right-wing tax for ideologues that hate taxes.

I was in Maui in December and January so driving one-way in the Northwest was manageable with low traffic. Now I would imagine you would just get stuck in traffic, potentially for hours, as some poor shlub fails to turn around because it is an "one-way road" after all on the cliffside a lot of times. The backside of Haleakala has the same issues albeit to a lesser degree. The actual driving isn't challenging.

Just got a call from SLC where I have a rental booked for tomorrow for business. Turns out Budget decided to move my rental location from the airport due to availability. Uhhhh.,..... I'm flying in, how the hell does it make sense for me to get a tax/uber to the freaking rental car place 30 minutes away? The guy was like "would you prefer the airport"? What kind of question is that? No I'll farking fly to LA, pick up a car and drive to SLC. WTF.

We had a kitchen once on a 2 week trip to Maui, was a pain, had to go to the grocery store every day, threw away a bunch of condiments and stuff at the end of the trip. Best part of travel for me is trying local food, we usually only eat out once a day, grab a sandwich for brunch, big early fancy dinner.
Different strokes for different folks. I don't visit tropical islands to spend time in restaurants or enjoy planning my evenings around their hours of business. A kitchen gives you options, but clearly if you need to visit a grocery store every day to execute meals then you personally are saving no time or convenience over restaurants.

I can understand people hoping to enjoy a loco moco, or visit hidden gems like Nui's thai food truck while they travel, but anything beyond that is personal preference on where you find spending money to be most entertaining.

I guess it depends on goals and whether you are an apartment person or hotel person...

I just did $377/day total for a 2 bedroom / 1,050 sq ft condo and car in Kihei in a VRBO with a solid view (part ocean, part west Maui). I far prefer extra space, free parking and a kitchen on my trips, so it worked very well for me.
I found Kihei to be the worst part of Maui...by far. This hotel is definitely where you want to stay while in Maui.
