Overall, I prefer VA panels, but they both have their place. VA panels will display better blacks, but have narrower viewing angles, whereas, IPS panels will have wider viewing angles, but gray-ish blacks... especially in a darker environment. Daytime viewing is subjective to specific TV models. This UN8500 Series is a budget model that doesn't get real bright and has only decent reflection handling. Therefore, it would be OK in a moderately-lit environment, but would struggle in a well-lit environment.
When I saw it in the store last year, IMO, PQ looked similar to the 2019 Samsung 82ru8000 / 2020 Samsung 82Q60. This seems to be a VG price for the specs. Since RTINGS only reviewed the IPS version of the UN8500 Series, I've attached the only review-type info I could find specific to the VA Panel. Video is for this TV (LG UN 85 series VA Panel) just the model no. in the video is for Europe.

I prefer IPS to VA for viewing angles but VA is better for color I think. I honestly have no idea if viewing angle matters as much for such a large screen.

Fwiw. I have an LG 70 inch ips and I love it though the blacks aren't great. I wouldn't trade the LG smart interface for anything.

I'm thinking of returning 75" sony from costco. My TV budget is less than $1500 including tax. I like bigger size, not really into details. We all ended up streaming movies/ tv shows from internet anyway, and hardly have time to play games. Is it worthed to swap for $50 leas and 7" diameter bigger?

I've been looking for a new living room TV. Currently have a budget 4k TCL and though its been a great display, it has it's downfalls.

Personally, I deal with commercial displays so I'm asking for fellow-consumer feedback.

Would it be worth spending the extra coin for a full array over this? ..or would this suffice for movies and gaming?

This tv doesn't have wide color gamut and it has poor HDR. Might be disappointing for people who know about this stuff but for average consumer might not even be noticeable.

How does this compare with the Samsung that seems to be for $50 less: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/sams...Id=6452232

Both are 82", VA, 4k, 2020 models from what I can tell. Samsung has 2 fewer HDMI ports, limited to 60 Hz and no Ethernet, so think the extra $50 for LG is worth it, agreed? How does LG vs Samsung smart interface compare?

Did you get the 75" X90CH $1300 deal? If so... if you like it and aren't having problems with it, the Sony's PQ will be quite a bit better. In this case, not worth sacrificing PQ for the extra viewing area, IMO.

LG is definitely worth the extra $50. Besides the two extra HDMI ports, other additions from the LG include: a native 120Hz panel w/ quicker response time, HDMI 2.1 support, and 24p judder removal from any source.

Edit: OOPS! Missed the smart interface question. I prefer WebOs over Tizen, especially on these budget models; it just seems to run a bit smoother.
