Eh... they're always on sale, so unless you have time to play them all back to back, you may as well just get Far Cry 3 for now. They're all separate stories/adventures with different protagonist and antagonists, but roughly all structured with the same game play mechanics.
4 adds the grappling hook thing and has mountains to scale.
5 lets you hire specific helpers to join you, whether that be a dog, sniper, air support from a pilot, etc. It also allows you to fly an actual airplane and helicopter, not just the gyro-copter thing from 4. I don't remember if 3 has any air vehicles to get around quickly.
Not really a huge fan of the series but I did love this one and blood dragon. Didn't get into four when my brother lent it to me

Dude, this is where I'm totally lost with the strange people in these threads. You made a perfectly relevant comment, but multiple people have given you a thumbs down! Makes no sense to me at all! Maybe one of those down-voters can explain it to us, hopefully?
In regards to your thoughts, yes, this is an excellent game & still one of my absolute favorites in the franchise--especially FC3 Blood Dragon! Can't go wrong spending $3 on this gem of a gaming experience. I hope you enjoy it as much as many of us did
