Since this promo is good until December, would be worthwhile to wait a bit and see if there'll be any HBO sales to stack this with, especially around Black Friday.

Here are the differences:
The Ad plan: commercials, no same-day releases, HD quality vs. 4k, and you're unable to download movies for offline viewing.

My Amex offers expiration is 12/14/21.

I and many of the folks I know have recently or are about to cancel Netflix after years of continuous subscription. More people are realizing it's no longer the value it once was.

For me, it's less the content and more the lack of features. No Up-Next means I forget about Netflix when looking for content and I suspect that without synchronized streaming their content will be even less appealing. Shame. I feel they are becoming the blockbuster of the steaming world.

plus like you know those same day movie releases? like Godzilla vs. Kong, Wonder Woman 1984, etc. and like upcoming Space Jam: A New Legacy (with LeBron James) is not on $99/year plan

You can look at other upcoming titles at https://www.hbomax.com/same-day-premieres , there is fourth Matrix movie releasing on December 22
Good points, except they could not pay me to watch anything with LeBron James. LOL

For those of you who are on the previous $69.99 for 6 mo plan, what are you doing?

Here's my current subscription:
I had the 6 month plan that was active till mid-August, but was able to change to annual no-ad plan and they pro rated the charge and ended up paying $12x.xx You can set a reminder or you can start on yearly plan now.. personal choice..

Oh good deal! $150-$25 comes to $10.41 a month.

The number of first-run movies on HBO Max are what really sets it apart from the other streaming services. Looking forward to Dune in a few months.

It is a good deal for the no ad plans. I'm paying for Netflix and Apple TV will start charging me next month.

How is the HBO streaming quality?

Right now, Apple 4K TV streaming is outstanding. A lot of good series now.
Netflix streaming quality doesn't compare to Apple Streaming.

Four minutes of ads per hour.
that's not bad at all. last i had Hulu there are 2-4 15/30 second ads in a break plus a 1-2 second black screen buffer in between ad and show and a 44 min show has 5 or 6 breaks. I almost wanna kill myself. not to mention even in the ad-free version of hulu, every episode there's a network ID that plays before the show starts. it's not as seamless as Netflix.

This is the one AMEX offer I will probably get on my AMEX card because I already have HBO Max for free on my AT&T wireless service

I'm in the exact same boat (except I subscribed two days later and go through July 23), I'm going to try and hold out for Black Friday and hope there's a good offer for the no-ad version (but not too good, they could make it $99.98).

I put a reminder on my calander to renew the day before the $69.99 runs out- not sure if I will do w or wo ads
Why would you renew the day before? Can you not go a day or week or month without HBO Max? One way to save money is to not subscribe for a while then catch up later.

I haven't used Apple 4K much, but when I watched Greyhound when it first came out the streaming was awful at 4K, I thought something was wrong, switched devices from Roku to Shield, tried different tv's, checked my Gigabit fiber connection, still sucked with freezing throughout that I never have experienced with Netflix/Disney+/Amazon Prime. Had similar problems sometimes watching Ted Lasso. The Morning Show was a huge disappointment. Greyhound was a huge disappointment (Sony did themselves a favor pawning that off on Apple, it was slated to be a theatrical release before the pandemic). That On The Rocks might be worth watching and maybe Trying? Will be interesting to see if they actually start charging people in a month for it ... they have conveniently slated what I think is their most successful show (Ted Lasso) to start Season 2 next month ...
