Windows S can be converted to regular Windows with a simple official MS store download. Takes 5 mins and no effort.

This is significantly cheaper than employee pricing for the Go 2, this is a VERY good deal. My Go 1 has been all over the world with me, for international trips it weighs very little and takes up almost no room in my backpack.

Just wondering why the price drop - are they looking at a Go 3 any time soon?

Really comes down to your use case. If you're using more PC oriented applications, this works best and you can always use Chrome for some apps within the browser. So, is this more of a light travel work computer or more a consumption device? The Surface for the former and the Tab on the latter.

I've ran Photoshop and Premiere on the M3 Surface and seems run well enough to be functional for lightwork. Although I'm very much a fan of the Surface, there are fewer reasons to stay PC these days with all the apps out there, but I still rather not be provide Google with even more personal data than I have to which rules out Android OS for me.

A Windows Laptop + m1 iPad Pro is SIGNIFICANTLY more expensive than buying a hybrid Windows tablet like this though. In fact, you could get a budget 8th gen iPad and Windows hybrid tablet for far less than this, even,

If you don't care about the specs than the less expensive version is even cheaper. $369.98 for the least expensive option with a keyboard.

Different OS. S7 includes pen, OLED, HDR10, 3 years of updates, LPDDR5, faster cpu/gpu, etc. Personally I'd rather have a windows laptop and iPad Pro (M1) combo. Tablet experience is much better with iOS.

I've been eyeing a Surface Go 2 for some time. This is a great price directly from Microsoft.

If you're looking to save some coin, consider buying a type cover off of eBay.

This runs Windows S version though. Doesn't it have a lot of limitations? What would you be able to do on an S version of windows which you can't on an Android tablet?

You can get out of S version pretty easily. I bought mine pre-owned and it was already out of S-mode, but my understanding is it's a simple 1-click/restart to do so.

Like others have mentioned, get the type cover and pen elsewhere for cheaper. Mine originally came with a 3rd party BT keyboard, but it had to be charged, and had touchpad sensitivity issues (palm would trigger when typing). I eventually got one of the alcantara covers from a 10% off warehouse deal for ~$60. Note that there are 2 versions of type covers, with the V.2 cover supposedly having better magnets to keep the cover in place in the closed position. One quick way to tell is that the F1 key is for keyboard backlight instead of screen dimming. MS keyboard is a much better experience and allows more settings/adjustments (instead of it just being a "generic" mouse/keyboard on a 3rd party type cover).

I also have this pen https://smile.amazon.com/RENAISSER-Sensitivity-Rechargeable-Raphael-520/dp/B081NRTK9K/ref=sr_1_4?dch... [amazon.com] which snaps to the side of the tablet via magnets very well.

I suspect the pentium ones will be underpowered (which some reviews also confirm), but the m3 version has done 99% of what I need it to do well. There are occasional slow-downs, but it's not like they offer a higher spec'd version beyond this. Until they start putting macOS apps on ipad pros, I think this is the best combination of productivity/portability in the market. I personally think the 12"+ devices are a little bit on the heavy side for sustained tablet use, but obviously that doesn't matter if you're just at a desk - in which case a surface pro would be better for power/value reasons.

In my opinion, biggest limitation is price and battery life. This discount certainly helps with the pricing though. I haven't rigorously benchmarked the battery life, but I probably get ~3hrs of "hard gaming" on it running games locally like Hades, or streaming from Stadia/Geforce Now (maybe slightly better battery with a streaming service?).

It does charge with USB-C, so one charger for phone/tablet is ideal. I have noticed that it only charges with PD-compatible(?) chargers. It would not charge with my old chargers with USB-A to -C cables (could also be a Volt/Amp issue).

That's what I'm wondering too - maybe a Go3 is coming. And if windows 11 turns out to be much more mobile-oriented with lower system overhead leading to better battery life, I may be tempted to upgrade if I need to start traveling more again.

Edit: Based on previous launch dates, it doesn't seem like a Go3 would be due until 2022.

It ships with WIN10 in S mode, but you can option to upgrade to full blown Windows 10 pretty easily. I assume 99% of Surface Go users do this. Enjoy!
