Windows S can be converted to regular Windows with a simple official MS store download. Takes 5 mins and no effort.

This is significantly cheaper than employee pricing for the Go 2, this is a VERY good deal. My Go 1 has been all over the world with me, for international trips it weighs very little and takes up almost no room in my backpack.

Just wondering why the price drop - are they looking at a Go 3 any time soon?

Really comes down to your use case. If you're using more PC oriented applications, this works best and you can always use Chrome for some apps within the browser. So, is this more of a light travel work computer or more a consumption device? The Surface for the former and the Tab on the latter.

I've ran Photoshop and Premiere on the M3 Surface and seems run well enough to be functional for lightwork. Although I'm very much a fan of the Surface, there are fewer reasons to stay PC these days with all the apps out there, but I still rather not be provide Google with even more personal data than I have to which rules out Android OS for me.

A Windows Laptop + m1 iPad Pro is SIGNIFICANTLY more expensive than buying a hybrid Windows tablet like this though. In fact, you could get a budget 8th gen iPad and Windows hybrid tablet for far less than this, even,

Is the $279 model bad or even worth it just browsing and (non porn) videos? What does it compare to?

Wondering the same. I'm looking to replace an old Chromebook for basic browsing, but would like be able to run a few applications now and then. I've been eyeing chromebooks in this price range but all of the Surface products seem to get great reviews.

Mate, while the Pentiums are called "Chips" these are not meant to be eaten or swallowed.

How's the CPU? Any firsthand experience?
Seems a bit weak based on benchmark

Different OS. S7 includes pen, OLED, HDR10, 3 years of updates, LPDDR5, faster cpu/gpu, etc. Personally I'd rather have a windows laptop and iPad Pro (M1) combo. Tablet experience is much better with iOS.
Yeah I've tried so many android tablets, tried to use my surface pro as a tablet. And it's just always a meh experience. I plan to pick up an iPad Air 2020 in a week or so.

Tiger Direct? Didn't a lot of orders cancel on that one? Many calling for Tiger Direct to rot for all eternity?

In for it! This is a smoking deal for sure. Used to have a Surface 3 that was great, but got slow. Tried the iPad Air but really, can't do much in the way of real work on that.

Love my Go 2 but it was a hassle getting out of S mode. I forget exactly what the deal was but what should have been a simple check box was more of a pita than it needed to be.

Closest thing you'll get to an iPad that can be used with professional apps unfortunately.

It's a shit situation. Windows is crap as a tablet OS, but Apple refuses to offer alternatives that can be both a tablet and a full fledged computer even though the hardware is there, and iOS would be great if you can use pro apps docked or whatever.

The hardware is solid imo. It's akin power wise to the $330 iPad (which just shows how far mobile tech has come).

If all you plan on doing with you device as a tablet is browse websites....you can do far worse.

For me it wouldn't replace my iPad anytime soon. Notability has been a godsend learning my new job and taking notes while hearing what the heck is going on, and the app ecosystem is killer. I want just 1 device that can be both my iPad and replace my aging MacBook Pro from 2013, but there's nothing like that.

I used to have an m3 Asus laptop from one of my jobs. I was able to do everything I needed to: load a bunch of applications and websites simultaneously, create pivot tables, edit photos vis photoshop, use Tableau, pull SQL data, deploy CRM content in the web browser and pull data (doesn't sound intensive but it pulls a lot of resources from the CPU).

It's more than capable for real work except video editing. You're gonna hit thermal throttling issues hard after maybe a minute at best. These CPUs can't last long on sustained load which is their biggest deficiency since they don't have a fan and don't keep cool nearly as well as ARM based CPUs.
