Apple doesn't ask for any proof. Literally ANYONE can get the discount. The fine print, if I recall, even says parents can buy for themselves.

Get ready for eBay to be flooded with Airpods for sale.
Too late. Worst part is there are a lot of good fakes and they are selling for WAY cheap ( $40-$50). I understand why some people don't like AirPods, but IMO they are fantastic bluetooth headphones. Once you get over how ridiculous they look and they aren't meant to be the best sounding headphones, you appreciate their functionality.

Got an iPad Pro 11" 256GB, 2nd Gen pencil, and Airpod Pros for $1200. Put it on my Apple card with the 0% APR offer AND I get 3% cash back. Can't beat that.
Nevermind, looks like I was wrong.

I ordered an ipad pro using the edu discount 10 days ago and just contacted Apple support regarding the deal. They said I was eligible and added the Airpods to my previous order and now I see it getting processed for shipping.

Ideally I'll pay for this with 9 apple gift cards. Appears that apple store will only accept 8 GC's at a time. Is there a workaround?

8 GC restriction is during checkout. Add GC to balance that can be up to $2000.

Load/ redeem the gift cards to Apple account and order online for home delivery or instore pickup. Can load $2000 in apple account. 8 is the limit only for physical store purchase or if you want use gift cards directly at checkout.

I just contacted support and they said you're only eligible if your order falls on or after the date of June 3. The customer service agent suggested that I can just return the Mac and get a new one if the Airpods are super important for me. I said .. sure .. let me do that. It's counter-intuitive for them to make me do this... But sure. Free Airpods are free Airpods
Just to clarify, we wouldn't have you return your computer for a new one. If you bring in your receipt and the box/UPC for it within the 2-week return period, I would return it as a closed box, put the return on a GC, resell you the same computer with the Airpods promo and use the GC to "re-buy" it. If you choose to upgrade to the AirPod Pros, you'd just pay the $90 difference with tax. YMMV with which associate you work with though.

To address other posts, we only ask for student/faculty ID in store. For students, the promo is for higher education, so high school students don't qualify in-store. We assume best intent/honor system on the education store online. There's no student verification there.

The promotion begins on June 17, 2021 and ends on September 27, 2021 in the United States. The Promotion Period may be changed, terminated or extended at any time without prior notice.

I got that deal back last October on hot deals forums . First Mac purchase from micro center. Didn't want to feel like I was getting behind.

Ordered M1 Air on June 8th from Edu store , delivered the 16th and Apple chat was able to put in the request for the free airpods and said I was eligible for the promo.

Heads up for anyone else that recently ordered.

Got 16GB M1 Air for $1079 and free $159 air pods and effective cost of $920 for a 16GB Ram M1 Air. I think thats pretty slick.
