Apple doesn't ask for any proof. Literally ANYONE can get the discount. The fine print, if I recall, even says parents can buy for themselves.

Anyone try picking up the headphones and getting the laptop delivered? This way, you get a separate receipt for the headphones, and maybe it'll be easier to get a refund on the headphones? Or maybe it doesn't work that way on the receipt?

I had to add a gift message to the iPad to split the order so the iPad would ship to one state and I could pick up the AirPods in a different state. As mentioned above, the pick up receipt does list both items on it with the AirPods as $159 and the iPad with a reduced price.

I returned to the store two days later and returned the AirPods. I did not mention the iPad, but thought for sure the Apple person would. She did not say anything about the iPad and the $159 was returned to my Apple ID balance. The original order was part Apple ID balance and part credit card. I figured it would be pushing my luck to request part of the refund back to the credit card.

No experience, but I also heard you could order and split it up by adding a gift message to the ipad/Mac to have it shipped and then do pickup in store for airpods. Never pickup the airpods and they automatically refund you in 15 days? Not sure if someone has tried this but could be worth a shot?

Just tried returning AIrPods to store and employee told me that these AirPods are effectively free so there is no point of returning them. I insisted to return on which she said even if I did a return and refunded you $159, your overall billing will be adjusted to include additional $159 charge so you better keep them and return everything if you want your money back.

I tried online return too where they told me the same thing. so those who were able to return they got lucky. Anyway, I am going to sell them for $99 in marketplace so I will be getting at least some money back.
