I think it really depends on your use case.

Do you really need the power of the M1 iPad Pro with its XDR display? Are you trying to use it as a laptop replacement or for media consumption?

In my opinion, unless you're using it for your profession, the Air should check the boxes for most.
Are you trying to get both an iPad and then a MBP?

That's my intention. I'd be using it for Universal Control and Side Car. As far as Pro features are concerned, I'm attracted to the 120hz for sketching, including Lidar for AR features. Procreate 5.2 is going to add painting for CAD files, which their page said would directly take advantage of the M1. I also would like to own this tablet for as long as possible, so M1 might help with extended support. My major is Radio Television and Film, and I'm looking to do the heavy lifting for editing on the M1X Macbook Pro. The Pro might be overkill for me, but center stage and AR seem very practical fot my production design work.

I was waiting for the MBP too but just bought the Air instead. Who knows how much it'll cost (some rumors say the MBP 13 will remain on th e lower end) and who knows when they will have sufficient volume since TSMC was on low production for the last few months due to the drought (new iphone gets priority on chip production). I would expect the new MBP in August at the earliest and maybe even November if chip shortagfes are as serious as they are for everyone else.

My machine is worth thousands in productivity to me every month so it's worth it in my case to buy a MBA now and sell it at a small loss to get the new MBP whenever it comes out comes out. Your case may be different.

my receipt shows the same... i did installment loan and have installments for both airpods and the ipad, it took the price of the airpods off the ipad... so ill bet if you return to apple they'd see it was part of a promotion but walmart/target/best buy might return without receipt for store credit? waiting for someone to chime in also.... would prefer not to try to sell on craigslist and get scammed/killed as i already have 2 pair of airpods....

Anyone have thoughts on buying now with the Apple event scheduled for 9/13? Will they shut down this deal before the event? I would be interested in a 14" Pro but if it's much more ($500+) than the Air, this would work. I might just but the Air Friday the 10th and cancel/return it if a new, reasonably price Pro gets released.
Pro wont get released till October. The event on the 13th is for the new iphones. The student deal usually ends near the end of September.

Anyone try picking up the headphones and getting the laptop delivered? This way, you get a separate receipt for the headphones, and maybe it'll be easier to get a refund on the headphones? Or maybe it doesn't work that way on the receipt?

I had to add a gift message to the iPad to split the order so the iPad would ship to one state and I could pick up the AirPods in a different state. As mentioned above, the pick up receipt does list both items on it with the AirPods as $159 and the iPad with a reduced price.

I returned to the store two days later and returned the AirPods. I did not mention the iPad, but thought for sure the Apple person would. She did not say anything about the iPad and the $159 was returned to my Apple ID balance. The original order was part Apple ID balance and part credit card. I figured it would be pushing my luck to request part of the refund back to the credit card.

No experience, but I also heard you could order and split it up by adding a gift message to the ipad/Mac to have it shipped and then do pickup in store for airpods. Never pickup the airpods and they automatically refund you in 15 days? Not sure if someone has tried this but could be worth a shot?

Just tried returning AIrPods to store and employee told me that these AirPods are effectively free so there is no point of returning them. I insisted to return on which she said even if I did a return and refunded you $159, your overall billing will be adjusted to include additional $159 charge so you better keep them and return everything if you want your money back.

I tried online return too where they told me the same thing. so those who were able to return they got lucky. Anyway, I am going to sell them for $99 in marketplace so I will be getting at least some money back.
