I bought this. Threw in 2x16GB Teamgroup 3200 MHz ram. Two nvme slots. The first one is where the boot drive sits but it's a tiny short stick. Moved it to the second slot because the second slot could only accommodate the short stick. There's a little metal screw plate you move in the first slot and lock it in further down so you can put a 2280 length drive in. I threw in a 2 TB second nvme. Solid machine and pretty quick.

You seem to have not been around for the last 1-2 years.

AMD Ryzen 5000 series clearly beats the latest Intel Core line up in Multithreaded applications, Power efficiency and lately in many other Single threaded applications. In short, AMD is faster while still being more power efficient.

AMD's integrated GPU also beats Intel's offerings.

AMD has taken back the throne for more than a year now.

Hi OP, it looks like this information is incorrect in your description, or at least the 1-year accident protection is not included in the price now vs. when you posted:
Warranty
1 Year Mail In Service
Accidental Damage Service
None

That being said, with Dell I encourage people to spend the extra cost and get the Accidental Damage Service, at least for one year. It includes hinge damage - this is a common, huge problem with Dell lately, and they will deny manufacturer defect claims for hinge breaks. Hopefully this new model is different. I believe there is already a G-series class lawsuit going for how bad the hinge is/was on those gaming models, and most of the time it happens in less than a year. I know this from personal experience.

Practically same specs as the Levono Ideapad 3 with the same Ryzen 5 5500U at Walmart (Frontpage deal) for $450. More than $100 less and easier return at Walmart. Unless you MUST have the touch screen.

Negative, you can put 32gb of ram in this laptop. Also, it's cheaper if you have the $120 AMEX offer.

That is true in the desktop arena, however in the mobile park Intel still has a slight lead in comparable laptop chips..

is the screen any good?

thanks!

The screen is complete crap. I regret my insprion 15 purchase because of that, even tho I paid $477 ($100 off 500 amex deal last month), and mine has a ryzen 7 4700u (octacore) and a single 8gb ram chip (I threw in a 16GB ram chip into my empty slot).

It's a quick machine, but the screen is absolutely garbage. It's really dark (I think something like 200 or 250 nits). And the colors suck. And the clarity sucks. Let alone that it's not even a touchscreen, which also sucks. I definitely miss IPS displays after buying this POS.

Then again, this laptop says touch (but has no indication of touchscreen in the specs). If it actually is a touchscreen, then I have a different screen.

20 GB RAM is more than plenty on a laptop for most of my needs including AE. I don't have Amex. Last time I got a Dell, I went through arbitration that took 3 months before I got a full refund.

Which intel chip, in the same category, beats the 5500u in terms of performance and power consumption?

I just got mine 2 days ago, the 5700U, 16 GB option. It does have touch screen and finger print scanner.
Charging it with USB-C cable since day 1(using 65W charger). Dell's brick charger still in the box untouched <--- hate the dedicated charging cable.
Single charge of the laptop can last 12 hour straight with lighter work easily.
My fan doesn't always turn on but there's this application called "Notebook FanControl" set the config to Dell Inspiron 7375 and it can control the fan perfectly, but if you are running some heavy stuff make sure to turn it on. I like to turn it off when I'm just doing excel and browsing. laptop stays around 35~45 C without a fan on.
I did turn off "processor performance boost mode" from the power options, since I don't do video/photo editing. Base clock speed is plenty.
Set the "processor performance increase threshold" to 85% , turn system cooling policy to passive to keep it as cool as it can and prevent the fan to turn on.

One thing kind of bothers me is the right click on the touchpad. Mine does not register when I press it, I hear the click not the right click option won't show up, can anyone share their touchpad experience? I can always use 2 finger touch to enable the right click option, since I do like this laptop not sure if I should to return it.

This is great feedback. Can you comment on the touchscreen? Is it more than doable? Horrific? Good for movies, youtube, tv? I may do some small graphic design, but not for income/career, just a hobby. Any thoughts?

For me, office use, it seems to be fine, casual YouTube and movie, is decent too.
Just don't compare it to Macbook or OLED display.
I put it next to Macbook Pro 16 and Galaxy Book Pro.. it's a pretty big difference.
This is also a matte finish display not glossy so not a lot of reflex, I can work longer with that.
Some people common on the display brightness, 250 nits is plenty for indoor.
I think generally people will be ok with the display if you don't need it for photo editing as professionals.
You do have 30 days to try it out.

Matte display, but touchscreen? Man, am I dumb? I didn't think they did that.

I've been watching this model for a few days now and the ideapad model from walmart as well.
My kids want a laptop for school work and light gaming - think roblox, minecraft, etc

Here are my options:
1) Buy this Dell and apply the 120$ offer from Amex.
The price then becomes 500$.
Pros:
I can upgrade RAM to 32 gb
Touch screen

Cons:
Ive read the touchpad on this dell sucks.

2) I ordered the Lenovo ideapad at walmart from this deal.
https://slickdeals.net/f/15080617-lenovo-ideapad-3-15-15-6-amd-ryzen-5-5500u-8gb-256gb-nvme-tlc-ssd-amd-radeon-7-graphics-windows-10-home-82ku003nus-walmart-com-449-99?src=SiteSearch
I had a coupon that made the total price be 446.48 $

Pros:
I can make bios changes to boost the CPU clock for gaming performance. Unclear if i can do this with the dell.

Cons: I can't bump RAM upto 32 gigs

What should I be doing? Which choice should I go with?

Hmm, what's the likelihood of a stronger processor in the next ~30days for Dell laptop deals?

This looks like an awesome machine but I guess I am holding out for Zen3 (5600u instead of this 5500u). I'd like to try to use Amex offer too Smilie

Call me snobby but I know single core performance is higher for next Zen3 vs. Zen 2! https://www.cpubenchmark.net/comp...4141vs4284

Edit, maybe I'm asking for too much: https://wccftech.com/amd-ryzen-50...-detailed/

Is this deal better that the dell 2-in-1 i5 deal for 539$ ?
Since this has 2 x 4gb, it was going to be an extra $45 to upgrade to 16gb since you have to replace both chips. The i5 only requires 1 8gb stick since it comes as 8gb x 1. I also use the tent configuration
