We and several family members have been using these motion detectors from Harbor Freight [harborfreight.com] when on sale for $10 with no problems, but never tried them for 500 feet. The receiver that uses 3-C batteries has two sound levels with the high being a bit too loud unless using for camping to set up a perimeter for large critters or strangers at night. The transmitter uses 1-9volt and the cheap Sunbeam batteries for both last about 6 months with a lot of use. If you are going to use multiples, make sure to get different frequencies that are labeled on the back.

The rain cover on the OP is cool and not certain how the heat detection works, but it sounds good. The transmitters on either the HF or the OP light up on detection.... but to stay anonymous at night, I cover that light on the HF with a piece of black electrical tape. For this OP unit, the detection light is in the sensor and you cannot cover it.

A good price for three, I almost purchased the OP to have around, like in a couple spots inside the shop, or maybe for the distance, but I still like one receiver for one transmitter and the ability to keep anonymous in the dark. Like in the OP video, I am not carrying the receiver to the bathroom, but will hang one of the HF in the hall that on high, I can hear all over the house for the entrance door.
My driveway is about 400 long and I have a different style of detector that only alerts of metal objects so zero false alarms. No joke, one night about 10PM my wife and I were watching TV and the alarm sounded, saw headlights shine in the window, turned to my wife and said calmly, straight faced "it's on." Not sure why but I was serious as a heart attack! (Hopefully when the zombies come I too will have that level of stoicism) The car turned out my neighbor's guest had mistaken my driveway for theirs, no one had to meet my little friend and I don't have a solid coke connection so that part never happened either Wink

Otherwise with all the deer near me, it would be basically useless (for my purposes), as they would set it off a dozen times a day. I ended up buying a second base station so I could have one on each side of the house. If they are set to the same channel, the one sensor activates both stations. Downside of the magnetic style is it won't detect people but in the country that is less of issue than in the city.

Now this deal's motion detector style would be great for alerting of pool access if you had small children, blind alleys next to a house, rear doors that normally went unused, etc. But unless you have no deer, no trees / bushes that sway in the wind, etc I cannot imagine this style being anymore than a nuisance (in the country at least) which goes off all day and all night to the point you tune it out.

My buddy's house is on about 20 acres and his driveway is about 1200 plus feet long. I went there the other night to check on the house since he's out of town and it was just pitch black and I was like if I lived in that house I would have to have something like this that would alert me if someone was coming. I've been over there and been standing outside when some random person would just drive down the driveway, and there's a huge entrance with a sign that says private drive etc so to come down a driveway that long you have to have meant it. Thankfully it's always just been nosy people that want to see what the house looks like. Ballsy to do that though, a good way to end up on the wrong side of someone's little friend. lol

Thanks ! Your situation sounds just like mine . Roughly 400 foot of driveway with deer all over . Also my other problem is my wife leaves at 4am for work and we have trying to find away around it "alerting " the rest of the house at 4am . Still may pick this up and try the one you mentioned further down the drive . Op deal can stay closer around he corners of the house

Get a smart plug. Or for that matter a dumb one. Set it to go off at 0355 then back on at 0410. Unless there's programming you have to do? Also I guess this one has a battery backup so that might not work?

For regular sized lots what's the benefit of this over a motion sensing camera?
if IP security camera, thief is already in your house by time you're alerted

Does this sound an alarm at the sensor end?
Or, maybe shout a human voice, like "The police is being called"?

I have a small yard. One late night I happened to be viewing outside, and a perp opens my front gate and casually starts walking towards the backyard. I'm like WTF. I'm starting to panic on what to do next (I would have called the cops). I guess it was too dark (as I didn't have motion sensor lights) and he turned around and went back out. I never called the cops--regretting maybe I should have even if nothing came of it.

How would you say this does for dogs? I have a poop bandit with an extremely inconsiderate neighbor that doesnt pick up after them. It is an unknown neighbor (not my nextdoor neighbor, they do it too... but pick it up when i remind them).

If anyone has any suggestions it would be awesome, ty in advance!

P.S. i'm really not a picky neighbor, i just am tired of walking through my yard like it's a minefield. Last time i stepped in it i puked on my neighbor's front door as i tried to ring the doorbell to let'em kind of know.

Needless to say they cleaned braised fish and rice off their front door AND dog shit at the same time, i made sure to leave a smear mark on their front door area 😂

What would be a similar setup in terms of functionality but that added a smart connection to WiFi for example ?

These can close a circuit or output 12v. I have mine tied into a SmartThings door switch so when the chime goes off, it triggers the door switch on SmartThings and sends me an alert. It works great, less than a second delay. If you want multiple zones though, this one can't do separate outputs for each zone, that's my only regret with buying this model.

Does great for dogs. We have one setup low by each of our doors. The dogs come to the door, the chime goes off, we let them in. Basically gives them their own doorbell and keeps them from barking or scratching at the door to get in.

You need a camera.... even a trail camera. I had an Uncle in one of the suburbs of St Louis that had a problem with dogs urinating on his bushes and killing them. He ran two bare wires plugged into an outlet; one on the ground that he watered well and one strung through the bushes. Sure enough, he caught the culprit, but he also had to bury it. Personally, I would think a non-fatal electric fence charger would serve the purpose.

I have a neighbor that dislikes stray cats that use his bird feeders and bird baths as bait. He uses an animal trap with cat food as bait and has caught everything from cats to skunks.

Although some apparently disagree with our southern border, good fences make good neighbors.

I have the same Driveway Patrol now for 20+ years. Very well built. They were $10 regular price forever. Totally reliable. Very long range transmission. 9V battery that lasts close to a year in the transmitter which could be used as a portable or hung on a screw head. The receiver has two sound levels one of which is extremely loud or silent bright red LED. I had to buy the ac adapter for the receiver. Can't see why this costs as much as it does. AAA batteries in the transmitter isn't desirable as the contacts aren't reliable.

I have the Chamberlin version. Works well.

I wish these had a "5 Minute Mute Button."

Would be great for when I leave at 5am for work but don't want the beep to wake up the wife. I can turn it off when I leave, but then it's not active again until someone remembers to turn it back on.

If receiver uses an outlet then just get a smart plug and put it on a schedule.

I've been interested in a system that I can use to monitor our vacation property remotely. Does anyone have a system that they use and like? I have Simplisafe (which is awesome), but this is the one thing they don't do that I want.
Thanks!

I think now would be the time to splurge on a Wyze Cam outdoor near my garage entrance (actually, maybe TWO).

Also.... I just wanted to say DAMN MAN! YOUR UNCLE TOOK THE THOUGHT RIGHT OUT OF MY HEAD! not 120v, but more like 12VDC lol... enough to give their peepee a JOLT rather... don't wanna be doing Digging

Thanks OP. Ordered the 3 sensor version and it was $59.99. I won't get for a month but in all honesty I don't think I'd have time to set it up until then anyhow.
