S5 MAX is more of an entry Roborock (P5 design shared with S6 PURE and S4 MAX) with the mopping system from the T7 PRO (s6 max v) and T7 model (not available globally).
S6 is just an older generation "upgrade" to the original S5 or "S50" model. It has the worse mopping, but the robot is more of a former flagship design and has higher build quality. Certain sensors are also better.
So in terms of value.. S5 MAX would likely be your bet since you value mopping.. but ehh..its not amazing per say. S5 MAX is certainly better than S6 for this specific task though.
Mopping wise.. S7 > S6 MAX V = S5 MAX> anything else.
Vacuum wise.. Just depends on surfaces. They all trade off in some way, regardless of what certain reviewers reviewing 1 specific sample say.
As most of us know, this unit wipes floors to keep down surface dirt and dust. If used consistently, it actually does a great job of it as long as the wipe pad is cleaned regularly. But it is definitely not a scrubbing mop.
Airflow is generally higher on the newer models, but they sit up higher relatively and trade off performance wise.
S4 MAX... Its internally identical to S5 MAX and S6 Pure, but tuned slightly different.
Airflow, height, and general tolerance impact actual performance on surface. Most reviewers ignore these aspects.

Lidar seems like a must-have, so this deal is tempting. Debating pulling the trigger on the Robo S4 or waiting for a deal on the Wyze.

For people that don't care about mopping, Roborock S4 Max seems to be the robot vac to beat. I compared the S4 Max to Roomba and Shark in the same price range, and it looked like it was better at vacuuming. Roomba and Shark have self-emptying dust bins, which is a nice feature. But Roomba and Shark aren't better at picking stuff up off the floor.

Agreed it's a tough call between all of them, but S5 Max seems the most balanced unit out of all the Roborocks regularly on sale sub $400. Guess I'll found out soon enough.
FYI, Walmart has the same price for any non-prime members https://www.walmart.com/ip/Roboro.../676604396
Also like I mentioned.. the P5 model generation (S6 PURE, S5 MAX, S4 MAX) are fairly identical internally but the tuning is variable..
-S4 MAX has been consistently reported to have higher airflow at max setting.
-S6 PURE and S5 MAX seem identical on flow (messured), but the S6 PURE is specifically worse on carpet in my experiences.. The older S6(T6) was much better for me personally.
I'm not holding that as truth but rather.. I think these vacuums are inconsistent when compared next to each other with a sample size of (1) unit.
Just giving my 2c since people seem to ride or die on which model is "better".
