S7 has the best mopping since it vibrates on surface.. only problem is it's pricey. Especially compared to chinese domestic market which is more logical pricing wise.. Chinese models (most higher end Roborocks) also have a few upgraded parts compared to the global models (charger and side brush) which make no sense since the global version is way more $$.

S5 MAX is more of an entry Roborock (P5 design shared with S6 PURE and S4 MAX) with the mopping system from the T7 PRO (s6 max v) and T7 model (not available globally).

S6 is just an older generation "upgrade" to the original S5 or "S50" model. It has the worse mopping, but the robot is more of a former flagship design and has higher build quality. Certain sensors are also better.

So in terms of value.. S5 MAX would likely be your bet since you value mopping.. but ehh..its not amazing per say. S5 MAX is certainly better than S6 for this specific task though.

Mopping wise.. S7 > S6 MAX V = S5 MAX> anything else.
Vacuum wise.. Just depends on surfaces. They all trade off in some way, regardless of what certain reviewers reviewing 1 specific sample say.

I feel like Roborock fumbled the ball on the use of the terms "mop" and "mopping" in their description of this unit. It gives people the unrealistic expectation that this unit will scrub floors.

As most of us know, this unit wipes floors to keep down surface dirt and dust. If used consistently, it actually does a great job of it as long as the wipe pad is cleaned regularly. But it is definitely not a scrubbing mop.

Depends... S6 (T6) is an older generation, but "higher end" design. S5 MAX is a newer generation but based on a lower end P5 platform with "T7" mop features.

Airflow is generally higher on the newer models, but they sit up higher relatively and trade off performance wise.

S4 MAX... Its internally identical to S5 MAX and S6 Pure, but tuned slightly different.

Airflow, height, and general tolerance impact actual performance on surface. Most reviewers ignore these aspects.

I have a Roomba 960 (years old at this point) and a Roborock S5 MAX (bought the S5 MAX a couple of months ago on the $399 sale). While all the Roborock is doing to mop is dragging a wet cloth around, it seems fairly effective for hardwood. The robot itself, for vacuuming and mapping purposes, is excellent. It's much quieter than the Roomba, it doesn't have that little "nub" the Roombas have that causes it to get stuck under cabinets and benches, the app is extremely easy to use for setting No Go zones, and it's much gentler and more intelligent with its routing. I've had so many issues with the Roomba that seeing how well this robot performs has pretty much turned me off of Roombas.

Do you just use water or any other solution? I think generally water is bad for wood floor.
I don't think that it's water is bad, but rather moisture is bad if it sits there over long periods. I don't think a liquid solution sitting for long periods on hardwoods is better than water.

How you will compare this with S6 MaxV?
It doesn't have the same obstacle avoidance or cool "movies" you can make with the s6 maxv camera. But that's going to be $100-$150 more even on sale.

The filter traps a crazy amount of dust and while it is washable, it much be completely dry before using, and that takes a while, so having replacements is nice.

use regular vacuum to clean the filter.

Bought the Roborock S5 Max for my father's condo but when my husband tested it at our house before taking it over he wouldn't let it go. The cleaning pattern is much more efficient than our Roomba I7 and it maneuvers over the rugs on our all wood floors without a problem. Dad will get the i7 with the self-emptying bin (probably better since he complains his old Roomba didn't work but actually consistantly forgot the bin had to be emptied.)

I bought S5MAX a month ago with the 3 years Asurion protection plan. It has issue and I returned the Vacuum. Now I purchased a new S5MAX from Amazon again, can I apply the earlier protection plan to this new purchased vacuum? How does that work? Do I need to register the vacuum with the protection plan? Thanks!
