It's used as a synonym for forfeit, as you can 'default' on your turn in the game, same usage as defaulting in chess. You get a credit for another turn to be used later. Another option during your turn is to 'brave', essentially taking two turns at a time and using up those credits you earned by defaulting. The final option is to simply take the turn, cast a spell, attack etc etc

So the name "Bravely Default" is a reference to those two major additions to the combat system, braving and defaulting, and is, surprisingly, grammatically correct.

Good game if you like the old Jrpg styles of FInal fantasy. It uses job system like ff11 but there are so much more job/sub job to choose from. Has modern systems (can turn off if you want) so it doesn't waste your time looking for quests and other stuff

I'm really tempted, but I remember hearing about lag and glitches, with hopes they'll be able to later patch it. Any chances the issues have been fixed?
I only know this is Nintendo, so this will likely be the cheapest we'll see it. 🤔

Edit: The later half of my post convinced me, here's hoping it's fixed. 🤞

Would buy at this price, but waiting to see if it's released on PC like Octopath.

Bravely Default and Bravely Second: End Layer were the last 3DS games I completed before buying a Switch. Bravely Default was the best JRPG I played on the 3DS (Bravely Second not so much).

Watching gameplay videos, I'm pretty confident I won't be disappointed buying this... especially at this price!

I've been speaking English for forty years. Went to college. Yet still, I don't know what "Bravely Default" means.

Have the other 2 that I haven't finished... but why not? I'm sure it'll be $20 in 6 months, at which time this will still be sealed on my shelf.

Octopath is even included in Xbox Game Pass for PC. Smilie Given this game is also a Square Enix game it is not impossible to see it included in the future. I tested on my phone DQ11 on Xbox cloud and it actually ran okay with touch and looks gorgeous. (5Ghz wifi required)

Is this a direct sequel to the 3DS game?

Bravely Second was a direct sequel. This is a new world with new characters, like a numbered Final Fantasy.
