Have one. My switch lives on this grip. I also won't use my Switch undocked without it. Makes playing so much more comfortable. The charging port is still accessible on it. It can stand on its own. It cannot be docked with it on but it slides off and on pretty easily. Some people have reported repeated inserting/removing can scuff your joy cons. I haven't experienced that.
I have read mixed responses on this question: How is it for kids? Kids like the pro controller and are fine with the standard joy cons attached, but I am sure this would still be better for them. Or is it too big for their hands?

One of the downsides to those is they don't have rumble if you are about that. Might not have gyroscope too, but not 100% on that.
As others have mentioned, I also recommend this grip. Going back to PSP and Nintendo DS, I always had a problem with gripping the consoles as is. This changed the game for me and the asymmetrical setup is just a tiny detail that makes all the difference. No more cramping to reach the right analog stick. A lot of thought went into such a great product.
For those without prime, or just wanting to support the company directly, this can be bought for $23.98 after shipping direct from Satisfye's website, googling around even came up with a code (BEATEMUPS) which seems to take another 5% off bringing it down to $23.09.

I have it and I'd say it's not for "kids hands", but more like best for "mostly grown teenagers" and then definitely adults.
My hands are slightly larger than average (medium gloves are a tad tight and large gloves are a tad loose), and these grips make playing with my switch undocked a huge boon, and would make anyone who has medium-sized hands or larger be able to hold/handle their Switch better undocked.
Highly recommend if you're looking for a case-style grip instead the Hori split pads. I've tried like 3 or 4 different brands and this one is hands down the best one out these. If you play your Switch undocked and your hands cramp even a bit, this is the solution to that.
Adding to all the other recommends - I bought one of these for my Lite and it was a revelation. Such a huge difference in comfort. I have pain in my wrists and I couldn't play my Lite for long at all. With this I can play for hours. Now holding my Switch feels as comfy as a 360 controller.
