Very nice price. Too bad they're not running a deal on the Pro version.
This version WON'T run a Plex server. Only the NVIDIA Shield PRO will run a Plex server. If you want to run a Plex server, don't buy the Tube. You must buy the PRO version.
I have this model and the original shield. A word of warning. This device cannot play 4k UHD rips without stuttering and pausing. The same file plays fine on the original shield. If you want to play UHD rips you need the pro version.

I was hoping the PRO version would go on sale for Prime Day. Might have to get this one. The latest versions of NVidia Shield don't seem to go on sale very often.

Two very different devices as far as I know. The Apple TV is a streaming device comparable to Amazon Fire TV, Roku Ultra etc. Allows you to consume streaming media from platforms you are subscribed to. You can also install apps. The Nvidia Shield is a far more powerful device which also allows game play, allows you to run a Plex server and is probably the best Plex client out there - if you are into that sort of thing. That said, I have experienced problems with 4K streaming on Plex with this particular version - assuming it is due to the lesser memory configuration of 2GB. My 2017 Plex pro streams 4K content flawlessly. Am looking for a deal on the latest pro version which is supposed to have fantastic upscaling capabilities.

This device sucks. The Pro is alright, this one is nerfed and hardly better than what most smart TVs have already built in.
I know that one problem with this device is it runs a 32 bit operating system. So the dolphin emulator won't run on this. Probably not important to most people but very important to some.

I have the new Apple TV. I need a second streamer and was looking at the NVidia.

The new remote control on the new Apple TV is much better than the remote control on the $99 deal. The remote control alone is worth paying extra the extra $70 for the new Apple TV instead of the $99 deal. Just my opinion, no way I would go back to that old remote now that I have been using the new remote. If you really want an Apple TV, I personally would pass on the $99 deal and get the new model for $169, the upgraded remote control is worth it.

Also because this can run Kodi with Atmos support. With Apple TV, you will have to buy Infuse if you are planning to play local media from your NAS.

The  TV has games and has a fairly robust game library and a much more powerful processor than most streamers. It also has a better, more intuitive interface. I actually think the video processing is better than the Shield's but it doesn't bitstream audio like the shield so you can't get Atmos from UHD rips.

You can sideload Kodi on an  TV but you won't get Atmos and currently not HDR either.
