Amazon has the Sony 48" A9S OLED UHD TV for $1298. There is 6% cashback if you have the prime card and an extra year of warranty(?)

Its the lowest I have seen it. Sadly I just bought the LG CX with 5 year warranty and 5% discover cashback for $1250 at Costco. The LG has HDMI 2.1 and VRR support, but the Sony has better picture and sound quality.

Sigh. Is it worth the hassle of returning my LG CX for the Sony A9S?

The Sony will be better despite using the same panel as LG because of their tweaking and image processing. Think of it as car manufacturers sharing the same engine but being tweaked differently. One is gonna have more horsepower than the other despite it being the same engine it started with. That being said it really depends on your use case. I mostly watch TV and Movies and play with the PS5 maybe once in a blue and the Sony has been great. The LG does have hdmi 2.1 so it gets the better of that but in all honesty it isn't for me. Also had an LG die from burn in at 13 months where my sony has been going for 4 years no issues and it was actually used more so definitely the extra tech added in the Sony is worth it as I don't need to deal with getting a replacement and no need for a sound bar because of the built in speakers behind the panel.
Maybe I am just a Sony fanboy, but I am surprised that people arent that interested in this Sony 48. Its only a little more than the LG, if i didnt buy the CX last week, I would have bought this Sony.

But it is to my advantage if the LG dies within the 5 years of extended warranty.

The A90J OLED that Sony came out with this year to replace this model is so much brighter and better from reviews I've seen so yeah guess nobody really gonna get excited over this since it's last year model and should be discounted price already anyways!
Personally, was thinking of getting OLED to use as monitor but like I said in previous posting ABL is pretty annoying on it from reviews I also read. If anything I would've got a 48" LG CX anyways since it comes with 3D LUT that you can tweak so that you know you are getting most accurate colors. Sony comes out of box with better color accuracy I believe but LG can be tweaked to be near perfect using 3DLUT.

So to summarize without the bickering in the previous comments…

This TV uses LG panels but Sony's image processor and out of the box color calibration have a slight edge. For gaming though, LG C series have a clear edge thanks to VRR and HDMI 2.1. Personally, I would take the LG since I'd definitely look for these gaming features to match next gen console capabilities.
