I think it's more of it's time-consuming building a grill and something like free assembly is a major perk if buying from Amazon versus a competitor.

Putting a grill together for me is part of the fun of getting one. Maybe it is just me, lol.

I just ordered a grill with the service and it showed an assembly date on July 15th as the earliest. So if someone needs to or can wait that long, great. If I receive the grill earlier, and end up building it before then, I will just cancel the assembly service.

I think most retailers either sell grills assembled or offer the service, so I'm sure Amazon is just trying to complete.

I'm a pretty handy person, but if I can buy something preassembled I greatly prefer it.

But you'd still have to buy a Weber at full price on Amazon

I wonder how professional it is. Very likely allowing such a service everywhere in USA will get you people who never assembled a grill before, they would be installers for TV, grills, etc, basically will install anything amazon will pay them for. Then I'd think, if you are handy and you got time, your own assembly will be superior.

home depot/lowes regularly contract out the grill assembly these days where labor is cheap. When you see a ton of grills in the spring assembled in their garden area, thats why.

Interesting, I just listened to a story/report yesterday that was talking about this scenario. Amazon delivery people are the ones supposedly doing the assemblies once delivered and they're on a time limit. Personally I don't want my stuff rushed, I want it done right. I'll try to find the source and will post it.

Edit - here is the story:

Personally, I had a good experience 2 years ago in Reno, NV.
