From the Notebookcheck review [notebookcheck.net]:

"Outdoor visibility is mediocre at best due to the limited maximum brightness of the display. In fact, maximum brightness will drop from 236 nits to only 204 nits if running on battery power unless if AMD Vari-Bright is disabled. Glare is ever present even if working under shade."
Right. Because Costco is the one designing these laptop.lol.
This easily. Faster CPU, 2x the ram and storage.

Most touch-screens are glossy and do horrible outdoors in bright light unless the nits are very high, think 400+ and really closer to 600. I think the newest Dell Inspiron 14/15 Touch are the first non-glossy touch-screens I've heard of. I've had my Dell Inspiron 13 touch-screen for 5 years and it's been great indoors and likely has no more than 250 nits, probably less, but it's always tough to use even in the shade outdoors on my patio table.

They've probably got some pull with their suppliers.
Doesn't matter - what one person wants isn't what the majority wants. A majority of people buying laptops at Costco aren't consumers that are researching "build quality" before buying. They could care less about aluminum vs plastic. That's Costco's core consumer base, so it doesn't make economic sense for them to do so.

walmart one is $530. 5500U 8GB(2 slots) 256 GB
Costco one is $610 (have $50 off coupon) 5700U 16GB (soldered) 512 GB
Costco one is no brainer, but two things
i use laptop on my thigh alot and i wonder walmart on'es side vent beneficial vs Costco's bottom vent
and if RAM module goes bad, i can replace it with Walmart one.....or upgrade it....

Seriously, 250 nits just doesn't cut it...has to be at least 350+ these days or it's a deal breaker for me.

Amazing deal for what it is. I buy these for work and they are primarily used with docking stations and monitors so the screens are not a concern. My personal one (4700u model) is plenty bright for indoor use, I've never had the desire to use a laptop outside so I can't comment on that.
