It was a few months ago. I bought it and have been sitting on it since. Watched videos comparing it to my m12 fuel setup and it comes up as the same as the fuel m12 comparables. Going to return the makita set. If anyone in the south bay area/ san jose wants this kit LMK. local only

Nope, m12 is not even close man. Especially the drill. You're not using the m12 set to drill anything heavy duty such as larger hole saws, wood boring bits, thicker steel, etc etc.

Shit, me and a ton of other people grabbed the set on clearance from HD a couple of years ago which had both of these sub compact drills along with a Sawzall for $150. And that wasn't one of those hit or miss super ymmv deals. Deal went on for months and most stores had plenty of stock. I know because anytime I was near a home depot I would stop and check (was hoping to grab extras if the price dropped even more).

If the M12 FUEL can't handle those "heavy duty" tasks, then the sub-compact Makita can't either. Their specs are very similar (slight edge to Milwaukee) and from what I've seen, the M12 FUELs are built better.

They're good, small form factor tools on a great battery platform. I own a bunch of M12 stuff, and prefer the Makita subcompact drill for most things given it's size, weight, and grip. If I need a hammer drill or need something beefier. I have other tools for that. The M12 fuel drill also just feels more awkward in the hand.

I'll take my M12 surge impact usually given it's size and low noise level.

Point is, buy for battery platform. Neither M12 Fuel of these subcompacts are perfect for everything.

You should really go on you tube and watch the real world comparison videos between m12 and Makita subcompact.

Let me clarify my fanboy status. I'm a Dewalt guy, but after my van was burglarized I bought the m12 line on a deal and have been using it. If I could get my dewalt stuff back I would drop m12 in a second as I like the Ergonomics and many other things of Dewalt. I don't like milwaukee ergonomics at all. In fact I think out of dewalt milwaukee and makita, milwaukee is the absolute worse in ergonomics. It's not balanced, I hate the batteries and the way they release in the m12. I hate that unlike dewalt it's a separate charger for the m12 vs standard.

Makita is likely more ergonomic then dewalt. There chuck on impact is solid also.. That's their upside. Their batteries are bulky vs team red and yellow. If you are a wood worker or handyman I saw use makita. If you are in the trades I'm sorry but you can't. On job sites I see most sparkys rocking team yellow and most hvac and other guys rocking team red. It's odd here if you see makita.

I got the deal a couple years ago when the reciprocating saw was included and love this set after a lot of use. Plenty of power for most jobs around the house. Light and compact to get in tight places. I found the local Home Depot near me recently started carrying a newer model that appears identical, but includes smaller batteries. These were sitting next to them and marked down to $115, so I figured I'd share. It had a clearance price tag, but was with the other power tools instead of the clearance section. It may have just been my local store though.

This is a clearance item and you have to find it locally at your store. Most stores where I've seen this recently, they want $161 for it. Maybe you can ask for a reduction, but that's the clearance sticker price. L
