okay, want a cookie? lol nobody asked what you did, clearly stated what it was for, not a permanent thing yet you had to try to make it about yourself. It's $20, obvs it's not going to be a replacement for a $500+ microphone lmao do your thing tho, just no need to be so extra about a comment.

Idk about that. People who use airpods in video conferences have sounded pretty bad in my recent experience. I also attended a conference where one speaker had the wired ones and the mic kept rubbing on his shirt collar, it was really awful.

I am talking about apple wired earphones. Not airpods

For people wondering, no matter what this is going to be a better experience than your onboard laptop mic, simply because:

1. Almost every single laptop manufacturer considers the mic/webcam an after-thought on their devices.

2. Onboard mic is further away from your face because it's attached to your laptop.

3. Onboard mic will get tons of noise from the laptop (fan, typing, etc) because it's stuck on the laptop.

4. Onboard mic doesn't have pop filter, etc.

Is this a good mic? You're paying $22 and getting a mic, mount, and filter, so no. That said, everyone has different budgets, and if it's either this or your onboard mic, this will be a better experience because of the above. This is a fine place to start if you have a really tight budget. If your situation changes in the future, or you want to get more serious, upgrade to something from an established name (Blue, Samson, etc) when you're ready.

Damn, was there a slickdeals page for that? I paid $36 for it. Had a chance to compare it to a couple of loaner mics, ultimately decided $36 was a fair price given it was a complete kit. $18 would of been a legit slickdeal if it came with the newer version of the arm.
There was a 50% off promotion on the page, and a $12 off code from V*PON.

After owning it, it's definitely worth $50+.

Do you have any recommendations for a budget transformer? I'm not sure if I would need something that sophisticated. I also have a Rode Mic for my Sony Mirrorless Camera, would that suffice with an interface?
By transformer I think you mean interface. I can't see anything that Rode makes that would suffice as an XLR interface.

If I was buying today and had an XLR microphone but no interface, I'd get this if I only had one XLR and I wasn't recording music.

If I needed two XLR devices interfaced I'd go with this Creative unit.

Aren't these listings just excuses to trick people into giving them their personal information and shipping addresses?
I remember hearing about a 'kit' like this and it being super cheap, and never shipping. People started getting suspicious after a few days

"Ships from: Amazon"

I hear Amazon runs an entire fake web store just to collect addresses. 🙄

Great deal just realize condenser mics (especially cheap ones) will pick up a lot of background noise.
Which is why you should setup aggressive noise gates and keep the mic close to your mouth.

I like behringer because they all seem to be "class complaint" and cheapish. USB class compliant devices should require no drivers on all modern operating systems. Other class compliant interfaces exist, but plenty are not. It's not well advertised as an interface spec, probably because it gets borked so often and fixed in bundled drivers.

I'm inclined to disagree at $50+, but you definitely got a good deal at $18.

Thanks for that well-thought-out reply.

Since I actually make money doing VOs I was just pointing out there's a LOT of people trying to do pro VO work and most of them use MUCH better equipment than this
But hey, it's your money, Sherlock. Good luck.
Lmao no one asked

I bought this last year when it was $30 for my son to use with OBS studio and make some youtube gaming videos ( yes he has less than 20 subscribers ). I was hoping it would offer better volume than cheap mics plugged into the sound card so he wouldn't have to yell into it. Unfortunately the volume levels are just about the same as other cheap mics. We have the gain turned up all that way to 100% in every setting and you still have to get it really close to your face to be heard, and when you're gaming you can't be obstructing your view of the screen with the microphone. When we do the windows mic test, talking at a normal volume registers less than 5%. It is usable but just barely.

As for the build quality, we don't really move it much but the arm holds its position OK, and that is worth something.

I'd be very grateful if anyone can comment on whether going up to something in the $100 range would yield better volume levels.

EDIT: I'm guessing a separate audio interface would definitely solve low volume issues, maybe these recommendations for $110 total would be decent, hopefully another deal on that xlr mic setup will come up soon
