Those are basically different ways to get more internet coverage in the house. Spare the technical details, unless Ethernet is available or using the electrical lines in the house with special complex signal processing for carrying communication between the wireless access points, one will need to sacrifice radio bandwidth to serve as the backbone. Newer technology can use higher frequency and will provide higher bandwidth but may also reduce the physical range. Newer technology can also use multiple frequencies to delivered higher speed to more devices. The discussion here is asking if the money spent on the extender will be worth awhile when compared to other solutions.

Good deal but these things always throttle my internet. It could literally be right next to the router and it'll still cut down the wifi speed. Not sure if just me but doesn't seem worth it

That's how range extender work. Best approach would be to go mesh, powerline, or a new router if performance is a major concern.

Used one of these to bring wifi to the room we set up as school during last year's COVID-school home event. Dead easy to set up, worked like a charm. Without it, the router occasionally dropped from the load but with it, no problems.

I have been a cable tech for years and I would never buy this style of WiFi extender and I would never buy anything made by TP Link ( they are owned by the Chinese government and in my experience have a high failure rate).
Get a "mesh" extender from a different company.

Depends on on how much work you want to spend and your internet requirements. Best is to run Ethernet cable and add an access point with no speed loss. If that's no go, then you can experiment the power line network adapter and piggyback an access point on it. Then, mesh and extenders depending on how much you spend and if you need network sessions to be up kept when transition in and out of the wireless zones.

Had it for few months. Every now and then connection would drop. Debugging indicated issues with IP allocation. No matter what I did (changing Dynamic IP pool, giving static IP to devices attached, let router manage all dynamic IP allocation), problem would resurface. Only reset of the extender would fix it. For few times it worked, VoIP would stop working. People could barely hear me. I constantly had to switch back to main network for voice calls to work. Support is not in USA. So you send them email and it takes at least a day turnaround for them to respond. Although TP-link promises 24/7 chat support, no one is there to respond during US daytime.

After support spent a month troubleshooting issue and suggesting various settings, they concluded device is defective. Opened a RMA but you have to pay for shipping. Also you are out of extender until you get replacement. No guarantees if replacement would fix issues.

Had enough. Trashed TP-link. Coughed extra money and bought Orbi mesh. Working like a rock.

Would it be any good to extend the one-device Wifi that Marriot will be giving me during my vacation soon? I am wondering this will help extend it to use that line in my laptop, the kids iPADs, and the wife's phone.

Can these extenders be used with a TP Link deco mesh wifi system?
Asking because I need a 3rd unit for the outside pool area and can't find a single TP-Link Deco AX5700 for a reasonable price.

Low-E hurricane impact windows kill the wifi signal.

MyQ gateway actually has pretty good range. Have you considered placing it near where you have internet and let the garage door opener radio bridge the distance? Alternatively, use this in wireless adapter mode and and plug MyQ into it. You should then be all set. Just make sure that you have wifi reception in your garage by taking your cell phone to the garage and see if you cell phone can connect to your home wifi.

Yes... and yes!

In fact, you can even connect one device (or a router or switch) via cable to the single RJ45 connector.

Yes, of course. Just set it up close to your wireless AP and then move it to an outlet closer to your garage.

To the best of my knowledge, no, not as a mesh node. TP-Link OneMesh devices only work with other TP-Link OneMesh devices in mesh mode. As just an extender, it may work, but you would be manually switching between the google mesh system and the TP-Link extender.

I've been using this for about a year to extend internet into my backyard. It works for me. I'm able to watch videos and use the internet when it didn't reach that far before.
