Bought this fly more combo for $255 last month from micro center. Not worth it especially given the fact that it's impossible to get a permit to fly this anywhere anymore.

I thought the mini is small enough that you don't have to register it as long as you're a recreational flyer

Hmm must be regional? Out here in the Midwest (even with an airport zone restriction / landing zone area 60m) I had no problems flying it around. Was easy getting the DJI Custom Unlock to fly up to 400ft ... was almost an instant approval. Didn't need to go through the dronezone recreational flyer registration but did it anyways for $5.
Again, might be different in bigger cities like LAX or NY but out here, despite the drone maps lighting up with restrictions being a couple miles from the airport, I had no issues. (Mini 2 but I believe Mini is about the same?)
Edit: Looks like your "location" is NYC. YMMV haha
Edit 2: I meant 400ft not 400m. There are limitations to recreational flyers as well as local laws / zones.

yeah, nyc is going to have special laws for everything. you can say that about guns, skateboards, bowling balls, drinking sugary drinks, playing musical instruments...you name it. gotta check with the government to see if you can get a permit because you shoot it, fly it, play it, or consume it.
that being said, all recreational drone pilots will need to take the TRUST test regardless of the type of drone you are flying or where you are located....in order to fly legally. that includes the mini drones.
Just my own curiosity. Lets say I have one of these little guys flying around Central Park taking pics without any permit. What happens? Cops see me and give me a ticket?

Unless you have a part 107, you cannot fly at 400m. Do not do this, you are a risk to pilots.
Got mini2 from Costco a while back for $340 but have to return it since I am in DC area, NFZ everywhere.
not even play it on my deck/yard.
looking for a fimi or hubsan now.

personally i think any mini 2 deal is better than any mavic mini deal at this point.
Lol ... I was just going to say the Costco deal is the one I got and was surprised at the "extras" that it came with. I guess I didn't read the description carefully when I purchased. I missed the $100 off $500 coupon code / deal but got in on the $50 one.
The bag is the nicer bag and it comes with an extra battery + 32GB SD card as well. Little adders that make it a nice deal overall. Never had a drone before and so far it's awesome! Super portable when folded up and DJI makes it easy to fly / navigate through any rules, etc. What sold me was the price point compared to image / video quality. There are others cheaper but the image & video quality ends up taking a hit. Keep in mind this doesn't have obstacle avoidance, but I wouldn't trust flying w/o line of sight anyways (and the rules say you need to do this) so this is a great entry.
