As much as I want a new MacBook Pro, it can't be justified spending over $1000 for something with 8GB of ram. 16GB should be the standard on a Pro.

I'm in agreement with you. I never understood company apologists who comment "8gb is fine for dAiLY tAsKS" whenever someone says that 16gb RAM should be be the standard.

Like shouldn't we as consumers advocate for more value from the things we buy?

Exactly. If you're doing daily tasks, you get the Air that also comes with 8GB of ram. The Pro isn't needed and you save some money.

They make things non upgradeable and customers have no choice but pay more for the upgrade.

If they have done research and make 16gb and 512gb storage standard (which I think is a seet spot that a lot of people will be happy with) and offer it at this price 1100 to 1200, these macs will be so much more desirable instead of becoming e waste in a matter of years

That mindset isn't consumer friendly. It's because of that kind of thinking that we can't get 16gb for the same price as 8gb. Having future facing hardware specs makes a difference. Especially for Apple products which cost a premium because of build quality and OS support that lasts for nearly 10 years per model.

Given Apple's ridiculous net worth and the margins they make, it's entirely doable for them to give consumers 16gb of RAM for the same price as 8gb. Company apologists like you continue to chime in for reasons I don't understand and enable them to give us the bare minimum.

They're not a waste in a matter of years.
I bet the average Mac in usage is older than the average Windows based laptop even with smaller std config specs.
Just like the average iPhone is likely older than the average Android phone.

That's a pretty good price.

The new chip/Macbooks must be on the horizon and appearing sooner than we think.

Still using my mid 2014 MBP with 8gb ram.
Works perfectly but waiting for a 16 M1 MBP to upgrade.

Laptop is a tank.

I have my 7gpu 8cpu MacBook Air 8/256 and fricken love it. I just bought an iMac from Costco to see if I want an iMac, and I think I'm taking it back at 90 day mark. I am hoping they drop a m1x or m2 iMac.

Imo. If I'm buying the iMac, I want to top it out in power. Like 16-32gb ram and 1-2tb storage for internal, anymore isnt needdd because I will use Samsung t7 external velroed to the back of the iMac

But I don't want to pay 2k for a m1 iMac as of now.

Just hope iMac update isn't far out

For a laptop I think the m1s do great in Macbook Air form.

For a desktop I would want some of the rumored m2 possibilities. I think it is a smart move - although the new stuff is sure to be expensive.

Yeah, the m1 air I don't have any issues with being future proof for 5-8 years no doubt. I'm light user, but I intend on pushing the iMac, even if not I would rather the higher end specs for future proofing, when windows 11 is emulated I will probably be doing some gaming etc.

But I'm reading people think iMac Pro won't come til 2022 which is bummer. I am hopeful for q4 of 2021
