gee still have some from the 60's and 70's somewhere - used them with those orange tracks many times... used Matchbox for outdoors and Hot Wheels for indoors..

Oh yeah, sorry about that I was just having a bit of a nostalgia trip. If I was a kid and got this for a birthday present that would have been me silenced for a good few months haha
You were a good kid.
My kid will be excited for a few days or at most a few weeks.
It's better to give him a new one every week, so that's supply for a year.

Anyway, so they packed all those non-selling, surplus, on clearance Hot Wheels into a 50-pack and people buy it as a good deal?
I'd rather pay the regular price $1 and total $36 for 36 car I actually like, occasionally 99c store has $1 for franchise car (picked up many Star Wars and DC Hot Wheels)

I've been waiting for this one. I like giving them out on Halloween.

What does the orange package mean? I saw a bunch in the store the other day that had all orange packaging. It looked odd.

I don't know the answer to your first questions but I'm pretty sure this is a random assortment. I bought this about a year ago and I got different cars than what is pictured on the product page and different cars than the other reviewers' photos. I think a lot of the bad reviews are from people who bought from 3rd party sellers who went through the boxes (picked out the good stuff) and then rearranged them with duplicates. I did see some reviews saying they got a few duplicates when they ordered multiple boxes (presumably through Amazon), but with 50 cars that's to be expected. I was really happy with what we got last time. I thought it was a better variety than the product photos.

Anyone know if there's (or could be) hunts in the box? or variations?

Make sure and mark this as a "gift" so Amazon doesn't slap an address label on the Hot Wheels box and ship it that way.

Yep! That happened to me last time I ordered this. I was able to get them off but it is annoying that they do that. Thanks for the reminder! Smilie

Yeah, this is def. not the year to quote prices from the past like it's at all relevant. I could name about 10 things off the top of my head i'd love to still be able to get at last years price as well but it's not happening for at least the near future.
I bought a unicorn ultra-low-mile 12 year old Prius three weeks into the pandemic from a Toyota dealer. They couldn't have been happier to sell it below wholesale, even after putting in a brand new OEM hybrid battery.

It's worth more than double what I paid. My Chevy Volt is worth 30% on a lot than what I paid four years and 30k ago.

Prices for certain things are at Armageddon levels.

Once you start you'll be hooked. I got caught up in it in the mid 90's during the HW craze and ended up with a room full of HW cases. I bought one of every car plus any variation in wheels or color. I finally weened myself off the habit and ended up selling most of them for 20 cents on the dollar. I kept the Redlines, Real Rider cars, and a few of the Special Editions that I liked.
My advice to anyone thinking about entering the hobby would be to buy some older redlines, recent special edition hobby cars, and a few of the basic cars that you like.
Once you go down the "one of everything plus variations" path you're in trouble.

I was just going to ask about this. I have all of my hot wheels from the 70s sitting in storage. Need to figure out what I've got and sell them
You might want to look for an old Tomart's Price Guide for Hot Wheels or Hot Wheels Casting and Price Guide on Ebay to get an idea of what you have.
The prices may not be super accurate anymore but you'll at least be able to see the differences between the color variations, etc.
