Yes. Obliterates ants.

You can find better instructions online, but the easiest way to do this is to mix borax powder with sugar in water. Then soak cotton balls in the borax/sugar water and place them around where the ants are a problem. For a few hours, they will feast. Then they are all gone

A laundry cleaning booster and I make a borax powder ring around my house every year as a bug deterrent. I also mix it half and half with powdered sugar to kill ants.

Equal parts of this with baking soda and shake in a container and then sprinkle over carpet just like those expensive carpet deodarants before vacuuming. You can put some essential oils into it if you want it to smell. Not good for taking out pet stains unless you mix with water and scrub but for removing odors from the carpet fibers. Borax also helps keeps insects big and small away especially if they have a habit of crawling into your floor from the outside.

I also sprinkle it in hard to reach places like under the bed frame to ensure no bugs take up residence between major cleaning every season.

Downside is you don't want it sitting on its own in the carpet where pets can lick it. Not good for pets to do so in large quantities. Safe for humans unless you are in the habit of licking things.

Borax is used as a roach killer and repellent. I believe it works with most insects

Works excellent for cockroaches - i'm in the South so you can get them no matter how clean your house is. When we first moved in there were tons of them, after laying some borax mixed with sugar underneath kitchen appliances (refrigerator/oven/dishwasher) and baseboards I no longer have an issue. One does fly/get in every once in a while, but thats mainly due to kids always leaving doors open.

Also borax can be used as a cheap way to maintain pool chemistry.
