Just a reminder there has never been a portable AC with a high rating anywhere.

They also don't need to obey/list power efficiency.

Consumer Reports says the high end LG models are barely acceptable.

This was a front page on 6/23. Unless it's a really small room, I'd stay away from single vent and look for a dual vent. Some people can't use window units so the dual vents are the next best option other than a fan (or a single vent). Right now AC units are really expensive, but a lot of people need them now. Wayfair has a Whynter dual for $520 that has pretty good ratings, but it's expensive.

I've got something like a 15k btu portable that does worse at cooling my 250sqft sun room than the underpowered 5k btu window unit we threw in there this year. These things are basically trash just waiting to be sent to the landfill.

for some people they are the only option though. they do help. I have an LG that is loud but it cools down my third floor enough so I can sleep comfortably. Without it the space would be unusable during the summer

Single Hose. Do not buy. Find a dual hose. Whynter makes many models. ARC-110WD, ARC-126MD, ARC-14S. You can find others, do your research....and don't forget Craigslist and FB Marketplace for deals. I got an ARC-14S years ago, always worked great, and because it's a heat pump it can heat in the winter much using much less electricity than electric resistance heaters. (Though cost of heat is still likely more than gas, depending where you live, and AC heat pump is loud of course).

For anyone wondering, a single-hose must pull as much hot air into the room (through closed doors and windows) as it exhausts through its single hose. It's extremely counter-productive and a really bad and wasteful way to cool air. You're always exhausting some of the air your cooling and pulling in new hot air.

Dual Hose of course work better, but almost always will be more expensive than this option. I got this option. Only been using it a couple of days, but happy so far. I would say very inline with the reviews. Also note you can get the 12K for not much more.

Don't listen to naysayers. I got a dual hose and it cools a 450 sq. ft. room in half an hour with triple digit outside. If you got a single hose, then, it will takes much longer and a waste of electricity.

We have the dual hose whynter model and it does well, the single hose we had before was not quite as good but still did the job.
Our use case is a bedroom window that won't work with a standard window unit. While we have central heat air I like to sleep when its like 65 or so in the bedroom and no point cooling the entire downstairs when I can cool a single room.

Sure find me a deal for a dual hose that isn't $400-600

If you need a portable A/C, I recommend getting a dual hose unit.

Single hose units intake air from the room for the heat exchanger and blow it outside. This causes negative pressure in the room which means warm air is getting sucked into the room.

Dual hose units use outside air for the heat exchanger and eliminates the negative pressure problem.

I don't really know about ratings, efficiency, etc etc I just needed something to cool down my garage when I work on my motorcycle or host beer pong tournaments. This unit is quiet, puts out a lot of cold air, has good built quality, modes and even a swing option to rotate blowing the air from high to low.

If you want the app or smart compatibility to work, good luck. I spend way too much time trying to get their shitty app to work (android phone user here).

If you want a good portable AC unit, I vote Yes. If you want a smart portable AC unit, I vote Nooooo.
