What am I doing wrong
EDIT: didn't read whole post and just clicked Amazon listing. my bad
it's a promo code 6GHQRLR6
looks like 1 sale is just another shilly deal click-through these days
description typos are scaring me off though. and required 3rd party drivers to even work with Windows 10
Everything this day and age has "typos" and bad usage since someone in China with no English skills is doing their feeble best to type facts and descriptions to catch your eye.
I ordered one. I had a hell of a time doing it. The code is at the end of the URL from 1sale.com. I think it's supposed to automatically apply it. It kept coming up at $19.99. There was a place to enter a gift code or something. It accepted the code but didn't change the price. At the last part of the transaction, there was the usual place to put in a coupon code. It wouldn't accept the code. I went to the 1sale.com website instead of through the email they sent to me get to the item page on Amazon and the it was all set to complete the purchase at $8. It all worked. However, I couldn't duplicate it in additional attempts.
I've chatted Amazon chat reps for a couple of things recently and they're totally incompetent, give incorrect info and think they're brilliant helping us dumb folk. They totally screwed up a thing telling me it was Discover Card's promotion when it was clearly an Amazon promotion. Discover card reps thought them nuts.
I thought 1sale.com was owned by Amazon. The Amazon chat rep told me 1Sale.com is not owned by Amazon. They said Amazon never sends out codes. All codes are on the item page for everyone if there are any. 1sale.com has been sending me emails for decades. Their codes have always worked.
The Amazon chat reps wanted to know all the purchases I've made over the years with 1sale.com codes so they could help me with THOSE purchases. Bulls$%&! There's nothing he could do with those. He may learn that the codes are SUPPOSED to work and learn something. These were chats I've had over time. 1sale.com seems to have valid codes from deal sites and companies and websites all over the Internet.
Everything worked as smoothly as it should. Amazon is the only one that has any of my info. 1sale.com can only benefit by web hits and eyeballs on their sites and kickbacks from sellers from my purchases. All they have is my email address. They haven't hacked Amazon to create valid codes. The chat reps know NOTHING.
Anyway, I bought one of these. AFTER my purchase I thought I should have bought 2 but was unable to duplicate the purchase for $8. With tax it came to $8.50. I have Prime so shipping was free.
This thing looks good enough. With such old tech available for anyone to make with or without paying for a license, I'm betting this is just fine. It regularly sells for what others sell for on Amazon and it has good reviews. I know some reviews are garbage.
An enclosure alone without a drive in it can cost you over $10. I've not seen one with a connected cable that supports both USB3.0 and USB-C and has a micro-USB to USB-A connector for extra power. I've never needed the extra power. This has an emergency, mechanical eject hole which many don't have. $8 buys you only a cable or 2.5" HDD enclosure these days.
Just a few months ago I was looking for one of these sort of things and they cost $27 and more. They went on sale for $20 with an occasional deal for $17 or $18.
"The promotional code you entered is not valid."
