Subway apparently closed a lot of stores today to train their workers for a new menu overhaul. A lot of articles online say they're giving away a million sandwiches tomorrow to promote the new menu.

Do you really think it cost them $10 or even $5 to make one footlong?

I may be a minority opinion but I love their fresh baked bread and quite a few of their subs.

People often don't understand basic manufacturing/supply chain costs and how it directly related to other incurred expenses before even delivering the final product to the end consumers.

A good example is the Bill of Materials for the iPhone 12 is $373. If Apple sells at $400 (of course they would never do that), most people would assume that Apple would make money.

No, they will not. LOL

Thiere subs cost at most $2 to make a food long.
Go to the cheapest supermarket you can find on this planet. Then I challenge you to make that footlong for $2.

No one sells for cost + small margins. Everyone tries to maximize profits. If it's cost + nominal markup, an iPhone should be selling for about $100 and pizza for <$1

Read an article the other day that said Subway was attempting to rebrand itself. I used to eat there quite often, but man did none of their advertisements pan out. They would say "$5 footlong" and I always got banged for $6 for a basic turkey hero (would understand if it was steak..but that would be even more than $6).

To boot, they would advertise "new" menu items on TV to wit I would go to said store and request what I saw only to be asked "what do you want on it?". I would always just say whatever is supposed to be on it according to the commercial, and they would always repeat "what do you want on it?" Never failed. Not sure why I stopped going, but that place frustrated the hell out of me 😂

It is virtually impossible for the franchise owners to make money at $5 or less per footlong. Even $5 for 6 inch and they are probably still barely going black. If I was on the board of directors, I would completely abandon all unpopular menu choices except for the best sellers. I will then add in specialty copycat like Vietnamese, Jimmy J, Panera then completely eradicate dine-in options and make everyone pickup/delivery only to deal with the issue of rising wages and consumer dining behavior changes. This cuts cost and also gives a much needed jolt to this tired brand.
Wonder if they even have a board of directors. They're a privately held company, so who knows what that hierarchy looks like.

They do have a weird ass name though. It's called Doctors' Associates I think. They got sued a few years back, (class action) and I was sent notice that I could be part of the class. Had something to do with printing more than the last 4 numbers of credit card numbers on receipts. Think I got like $50 from it or something lol

Subway will make money from these promotions because more often than not, people will add a drink, chips, or cookies with their bogo subs.

How does that math even work into a net positive?

If say you lose $1 per B1G1 free, you lose $1 from that B1G1 free sale. However if you sold 1000 subs at a B1G1 free, you'll lose $1 x 1000 so you'll be losing $1000 for that higher volume sale
it was a joke...

Hard to choose subway especially if theres a publix close by. Subway uses like the least amount and lowest quality of meats compared to any other places i been to so far. Imo even quiktrip subs taste better. Just my opinion. Bogo deal like this makes it more manageable i suppose, but many locations dont even honor it here in atlanta
Yechhh. Pubix is the lowest of the low.
Want some Pubix hair with that sammich?

Most subways nearby me doesn't accept this promo nor buy one 50 percent off
If you order online and it goes through successfully after paying they have to honor it for pick up but they do not have to jf you order in store.
