Subway apparently closed a lot of stores today to train their workers for a new menu overhaul. A lot of articles online say they're giving away a million sandwiches tomorrow to promote the new menu.

Do you really think it cost them $10 or even $5 to make one footlong?

I may be a minority opinion but I love their fresh baked bread and quite a few of their subs.

Not in ingredients, but it's the overhead costs as well. As ingredients and overhead costs climb and price stays static, it becomes less and less profitable until it puts you in the red which explains why franchise owners hate when corporate brings the promo back.

A few video analyses have come out regarding this and when $5 Foot Long was originally introduced, it was barely making any money because it was supposed to draw people into the stores so they may buy other things as well to bolster the slim margins. But $5 Foot Long was introduced in 2007 so they're likely losing money if you only buy the promo when factoring everything that goes into it.

I stopped going when the woman making my sandwich used the little scoop to put chicken on my sub, and when a tiny piece was hanging off the scoop she actually pulled it off and put it back in the bin instead of on the sandwich. It was then I realized I don't ever want to give money to such a miserly company ever again. They try so hard to cut costs in the worst ways possible then wonder why their sales keep going down. We're not idiots, we know what you are doing and we are going to go elsewhere because of it. Meanwhile Publix is rocking on even though the prices on some of their subs have gone up, because they don't skimp on the quality and quantity.
Depends on the franchise and worker. I've gotten veggie toppings loaded when putting extra on the app and I've gotten subs measured to an exact amount.

How much is a pound is a pound of meat when you own the place that turns animals into lunch meat?

It doesn't cost much per sandwich for them. Less than $1 or less per 12 inch seems like the price I would imagine they cost if they give out b1g1. They always have coupons, alot of the time there are b1g1 or close to it use the coupons it comes up to like 40% off or so.
LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOO no way..... First off its a variable cost depending on how many sandwhich they sell per hour.... The more they sell, the cheaper it gets for them. If a subway only sells 1 sandwhich a day then the cost of thay sandwhich would be much much higher. Second off, you need to factor in everything from the energy bill to the labor to the material to make that sandwhich.

Its not a dollar or less 😂.

They are profitable obviously, they need to sell in large volume. Hence why so many closed due to franchise cannibalism in NYC.

Cost of supplies is only variable based on how much they purchase. I am not talking about cost of labor or anything else. Just cost of the food and wrapping paper.

No energy consumption is a variable cost as well. It is never the same.... Maybe close but not guaranteed.

In the end you can't use that argument as TC is what matters.

Like I said, I was only talking about the food and wrapper. Energy has nothing to do with it. They cost less when they order more at one time. Even if the cost per pound is the same, the delivery charge becomes less when have more delivered at once.

I wasn't arguing, I was stating a fact about the cost of the food along with the wrapper. Not the cost of labor or energy or franchising a subway or anything else associated with the final product.

Fake tuna... fake bread... "chicken" is 30% chicken... The only thing I get there is the steak sandwich... Probably not real either...
Their breakfast is quite good tho actually... but I never get full at Subway... Hence the BOGO deals they do every few months... fill up on fake bread...
If you don't like it just don't go there anymore stop complaining

During my lunch hour, I was able to go to 4 Subways for the free 6 in and a Mcdonalds for free fries. Either 1 or 0 customers in each Subway. When I went to the Subway in a Walmart, the worker told me I could probably go to the other location in the same parking lot and get another freebie which I had already done.

All the sandwiches were pretty mediocre (not that I ate all of them yet). Not bad, but I think they were supposed to have new turkey and bacon and it tasted pretty bland and similar to what they had before.
